Palin the latest to reject half of Stimulus money. Politics over People
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 05:04 PM by Thrill
Notice its the only ones planning to run for President. Funny thing is they actually think this helps them

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) announced Thursday that she intends to turn down nearly half of the federal stimulus funds allotted to her state.

“We won’t be bound by federal strings in exchange for dollars, nor will we dig ourselves a deeper hole in two years when these federal funds are gone,” Palin said in a statement.

“Simply expanding state government under this federal stimulus package creates an unrealistic expectation that the state will continue these programs when the federal funds are no longer available,” she added. “Our nation is already over $11 trillion in debt; we can’t keep digging this hole.”

Palin will accept $514.1 million of the estimated $930.7 million provided to Alaska, some of which the state has already accepted for Department of Transportation projects. In a press release, the governor’s office said it planned to accept “just 55 percent of the available stimulus funds, all for capital projects.”

The governor said she hopes to “foster a discussion” about the stimulus and warned that the “growth of government” will interfere in the lives of Alaskans.

1. Those running for office in 2012 are so transparent. Does she
realize she will actually have to interview with stations outside of Fox and the next debate won't be with Gwen Ifill?

3. That's what Schumer said
But then the Clyburn amendment kicks in and the state legislature can override the governors, which is what will happen.

4. My, my, Sarah. Where did this new found fiscal responsibility of yours come from?
Why, you old whore, you. You had no qualms about taking money for a bridge to nowhere. (At first, until it became a problem.)

You had no hesitation in building a road to nowhere, either.

You're just a Republican whore, who will serve a brief purpose for the powers that be, then get tossed in the trash with as much value as a used condom. Ask another whore named Harris from Florida...you know the one...the "did you know your make up mirror has a day time setting?" one.

8. We know all about her.
If she is so fiscally conservative why did she GIVE AWAY 500,000 dollars for a promise to maybe one day build a gas pipeline.

7. Way to straddle that fence, Sarah.
If she's trying to score political points by refusing the funds, then refuse ALL OF IT. Now she's just cherry-picking the pork like she's browsing the designer racks at Neiman-Marcus. "This might look good on me later, when I'm on the campaign trail." Uck.

9. LOL, of course she'd refuse it.
Her state is already heavily subsidized as it is. Don't want to overdo it, you know.

13. Palin Stiffs Alaska Legislature Hearing Discussing Turning Down Federal Ftimulus Funds.

Looks like Sarah doesn't want to answer difficult questions.

By ANDY BARR | 3/26/09 6:20 PM EDT

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) backed out a scheduled meeting Thursday with state legislative leaders who have publicly criticized her plan to turn down a portion of the state’s federal stimulus funds.

"We had a meeting scheduled with the governor today and her legislative liaison told us that she wasn’t there and that we could meet with the staff," said Gary Stevens, the state’s Republican Senate President, at an afternoon press conference. "We’re here, we’re available, and unfortunately she is not."

The meeting was scheduled to negotiate a solution to the conflict between lawmakers and Palin over the 31 percent of federal stimulus package funds the governor said she plans to turn down.

GOP state legislative leaders, who can bypass Palin to accept the disputed funds, have accused the governor of playing politics with federal money allocated to a state facing a massive budget deficit.
