People upset at Obama about GM should watch "Roger And Me"
If you remember, GM betrayed this country and the UAW. They have a track record of hurting the worker.

Michael Moore's statement on the firing of Wagoner:

"I have never heard of such a thing in all my days: The main representative of the people ordering a corporate chieftain to step down — today! And not just any corporate CEO, but the head of the company that has spent more years at #1 on the Fortune 500 than any other corporation in the world." – Michael Moore

1. It's not GM or Chrysler that I am concerned about as much as
the workers who have their lives invested in these companies and the workers at the suppliers. Neglecting all those employees while bailing out banks isn't going to do much to help economic recovery.

:nuke:

3. So, you're upset at Obama who is doing the right thing to fix this mess created by a corporation...
with a track record of betraying workers?

Sounds like you need to think things through a little more carefully.

4. If it works and the economy recovers, I will reconsider
I am just thinking of all those jobs, nothing more.

6. I think it's the disparity in treatment between the auto industry and
the financial industry that people are outraged over.

9. Besides the bonus outrage, the bailout money did free up enough credit to jump-start
the markets. We'd be looking at a Dow in the sub 1000 now if it weren't for the bailout and many many companies would disappeared.

13. The all important Dow, which is such a great indicator
of how well this country is really doing. :sarcasm:

Silly me, how could I have overlooked that fact.

11. there is a big difference between
needing temporary loans to tide you over in rough times, which is the financial industry's predicament. and giving (it would technically be loans, but how would they be able to pay them back?) billions to a company every quarter that's not sustainable in great times or rough times. the govt would just be propping up a couple companies forever so some people can have jobs. the financial industry was a money maker before this crisis and it will be again after this crisis. if gm was suffering only because of the drop in demand, no one would care about LOANING them money to tide them over in this downturn, but everyone knows that's not the case.

and there is no auto industry (among many others) without a strong financial sector anyway.

decisions. God forbid they should ever take a cut. Nope, close down your department and send the work out of the country. See ya...

14. I really never thought I'd see DU angry
at a Democratic President successfully firing the CEO of a union-busting, anti-environment megacorporation.

19. or "Sicko," which addresses the health care crisis ....
As an example, in the beginning at least, Canadians figured out that for their auto industry to remain competitive there govt was going to have to provide health care.
