:scared:

We can't ever forget that while we're arguing amongst ourselves, people like this are waiting in the wings. So argue gently and be ever vigilant. ;-)

Love you guys!

1. Yup. We are naive to think otherwise.

2. And you do realize that there are people on this board who agree with this wingnut.....

.... granted, I dont know that I'd whip out scripture to argue my point at an environmental subcommittee meeting and I DO believe that mankind is screwing up the planet in a way that can cause shifts in environmental patterns, but I agree completely with every word that man quoted. And I also believe that the end of time will come when God wants it to.

Time and time again we "run off" conservative Christians who's faith is more in keeping with the fundamental platforms of the Democratic party simply because we "bash" something so near and dear to them. We have allowed the GOP to simply pick up and run away with the largest religious group in this country and we dont even seem to care. Shame. Most Christians are NOT fundamentalists and how different might the 2000 and 2004 elections have been if we'd gone after the "Christian" vote? Very different I suspect.

See, unlike the GOP, WE are the party of inclusion, all faiths, all beliefs, even those that seem opposed to one another. That is why we have that cute little rainbow colored smiley you posted.

:grouphug:

And I love you too. ;)

5. I have no problem with your (or anyone else's) beliefs.
It's when those BELIEFS are brought into the government and used to argue against scientific evidence to influence policy decisions that I get the heebie jeebies.

:hi:

10. But most of this nation's laws are based on social mores....
.... and what are social mores other than basic beliefs that are held in common. Do we have freedom of speech and religion because it's a scientific fact that it's somehow better for us to do so? Of course not. Do we ban murder because we can scientifically prove that by lessening the population we produce a negative impact on our GDP? Nope.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not saying that I think church and state need to mesh together into some kind of 21st century theocracy. Heaven forbid. ;) I'm what most would consider a conservative Christian yet i'm from such a small minority within that segment and I don't agree with pretty much anyone else within that demographic. In other words, I don't want the Southern Baptists (with apologies to the Southern Baptists) ruling the government using their own philosophies any more than anyone else does.

But this notion that the government should or even CAN exist devoid of any religious influence is not only impractical, but has no precedent in this nation's history. Separation between church and state was never meant to protect the government from religion ... but to protect religion from the government.

Remember those folks who we celebrate every year in November as we swine and dine ourselves into an eltriptophan induced slumber? What were they?

Yep ... pilgrims!

Sorry if I'm unloading on your but you've obviously struck a nerve. Please ignore the parts that don't apply. ;)

.... I totally get what you're saying but we've all got our hot button issues and this is mine. Sorry if I'm taking it out on you. I agree with the spirit of your post and with what you were trying to do with it. And I was wrong to disagree with that spirit.

Krugman anyone? :)

7. Actually I am a big time Christian and my husband is a choir director and organist
at our Church. But Rethugs use faith to bring others down, Dems and others in neither party use it to support each other. :)

4. Hanging dirty underwear on the outdoor line for all to see,
doesn't contribute much to solving family issues, last I checked. :)

14. And once again, you nailed it.
Bothers me to no end at the thought of the Freepers lurking from the wings and eating all of this "in fighting" up.

WHY can we not go back to making fun of Michael Steele? Remember how much fun that was? lol
