3. Lucky Europeans to be graced by such a beautiful, dignified couple
..but they've suffered almost as much as we have from the missing link and Xanax woman. It's a whole new feeling not to be cringing as our president prepares to meet his foreign counterparts!

11. If I remember the POTUS gets $50K a year for personal expenses
meals in the White House don't count of course.

That jacket she has on is positively "Jackie"-esque

12. I agree. I remember the style, as I was 16 then, and tried to copy Jackie's
hair and clothes. LOL

However, Michelle very much has her OWN style, too.

As was with Jackie, everyone will want to copy our gorgeous First Lady.

14. Even if they do.....
... considering they announced a couple of days ago they would NOT be using the $100,000 worth of public money that each First Family is allowed to decorate the White House with and would instead be using their own money....

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/29/obamas-are-personally-pay_n_180551.html

.... I doubt Michelle would use it. She's a millionaire and her money goes a long way at J Crew. :)

15. Her more formal wardrobe is clearly designer....
It has to add up as I don't think designers can "comp" the First Family due to "gift restrictions"....

Yes, they have some money, but the Clintons clearly did not when in office. The problem of affording to dress at this level would be significant I should think...

21. Why would she have to pay
For her clothes. It should be an honor for some designer to have Michelle wear their clothing. She's a billboard of advertisement. They get money from women wanting to buy the design Michelle wore.

25. Federal law restricts receipt of gifts--that includes both President
and First Family. Even State Gifts during international travel get turned over for display or whatever.

No one is suggesting designers wouldn't WANT to do so--quite the opposite.

24. No
The clothes for the President, First Lady, Malia, and Sasha are paid for by the Obamas.
There is no allowance from the government.
The Obamas also have to pay for their own food at the White House residence and their own dry cleaning.
They DO NOT have to pay for food though if it is a state dinner hosted by the White House.

10. There needs to be some sort of narrow path (perhaps cement) so
that shoes are saved from the wet grass. I've thought this for years since I used to have a shoe fettish years ago. Even POTUS wears good shoes, they need to be protected....LOL.

35. There is not any country that is entirely socialist....
there is still capitalism, but health care is socialized in all EU countries. For the more part, the EU is doing it right and Obama needs to follow suit and take a lesson for those countries countries.

34. I'm so freakin' excited!
I think this is the first time I remember being excited when a President and First Lady are headed overseas for the first time. I don't think I ever really cared before. This time it's like waiting for a much anticipated movie that's coming out the next day. :D
