Tomorrow...
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 03:59 PM by jefferson_dem
is the 41st anniversary of a national tragedy...and one of the most remarkable public announcements ever delivered.

RIP Martin and Robert. O8)

While there is still progress to be made, surely you would both be filled with pride at the miles we've traveled.

1. Gives me chills even today to think of what could have been ...
had they both lived. No Nixxxxxon possibly, a REAL war
on poverty ... Bobby was the Kennedy who really should
have been president. Not to knock Jack, but Bobby was
the guy who fought crime (the mob) and stood up for the
poor ... I only wish we could have seen what an RFK
presidency would have looked like. And if Martin had
lived to work with him ... oh, I can still dream I
guess ...

It's easier to deal with anniversaries like this now that
we have President Obama. The dream deferred perhaps ...

3. On Election Night When CNN Showed the Reaction at Ebenezer Baptist Church
that's when I started to cry. I was at a party in mid-town Atlanta and we could hear the horns and yells in celebration outside. Earlier in the evening, I had been explaining to two German visitors at the party that the news networks wouldn't call the election until all the polls had closed on the West Coast. They kept asking me "but Obama will win?"

One of them came over to me and gave me a hug saying that "Dr. King is very happy tonight".

4. Thanks for this thread
I was very young at the time, but that day is one of my most vivid memories as a child. My mother and I were shopping for Easter in center city Philadelphia. I'll never forget the anguish on her face.

My other very vivid memory is watching RFK's funeral train pass, and again it was the faces of the adults etched in my mind.
