I feel the love coming back.
I traveled to Europe in 1991 with my sister-in-law. We were 40ish women with backpacks, Eurail passes and a Frommer’s. No plan at all. We landed in Paris and visited Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and then back to Paris to fly home.

In most stops we made, the natives were thrilled to talk to an “American”. Some in Paris being an exception to that statement. I never felt uncomfortable traversing the streets, even at night when we were searching for a place to stay.

That all changed with the Bush administration. The hostility toward America because of his arrogant, take no prisoner's attitude made me hesitant to make a return visit. It looks like our President is bringing back the love.

I let my passport expire, but just sent away for a new one. I think it is time for a return visit. This time I will make hotel reservations before I step off the train!

4. Bring a week's worth of Obama T-shirts and get a free round at every pub you stop at...

5. My friend was in Paris when we won the election. She said she
felt like a celebrity. Everybody was hugging her and congratulating her. I'm glad the love is coming back. Bush was a total embarrassment.
