Jeb Bush: Obama 'pushing down' brother
Jeb Bush: Obama 'pushing down' brother
In portraying past as bad, he says, Obama tries to make himself 'look good.'
Posted April 9, 2009 2:50 PM

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Count Jeb Bush, the former president's younger brother, as among those who want to see President Barack Obama "succeed.''

But also count the former Florida governor as among those tired of hearing the new president say that he inherited a mess in the White House.

"If I had one humble criticism of President Obama, it would be to stop this notion of somehow framing everything in the context of, 'Everything was bad before I got here,' and focus instead on his duties, which we all want him to succeed,' Bush says in the second part of an interview with Sean Hannity of FOX News Channel that will air in two parts, this evening, and Friday on Hannity.

"But constantly pushing down the previous president to make yourself look good, I think is a bad thing,'' Bush says in a brief excerpt of the interview that FOX released today.

Must suck for your family member to be the butt of a great national joke but then again .... perhaps Jeb should have done something to prevent that from happening.

6. This seems to be a strategy.
I heard somebody else making this claim earlier -- as if Obama were spending all his time griping about Bush, focused on the past, etc.

Intended to fool people who aren't paying attention, and give them something to spout at the water fountain or back fence. "Yeah, that Obama, all he does is gripe about Bush, focused on the past, harumph."

52. Of course it is!
It's nothing but an empty talking point that the bad guys are making sure has spread out across the landscape. If you listen to some of the callers on CSPAN and assuming you have the stomach to listen to callers on hate radio, or even some of those who call in to good-guy shows like Thom Hartmann's or Nancy Skinner's, you'll hear the same stupid brainless stuff regurtigated as though the speaker were reading off a cue card. It's quite deliberate. Which is why OUR side should be spreading Counter-Memes to give some of our people lines to say to refute this shit. Sometimes our side doesn't know what to say or what all the facts are. Which is why we should be informed and ready to teach and enlighten - AND debunk.

Me, I think if that was the case, the Repukes would whine about how Obama wasn't talking ENOUGH about what Bush did.

realizes that Obama probably would not have been elected if bushits hadn't created The Perfect Storm with their incompetence.

One thing I'll thank bush for is being such a fucking idiot after he and dick stole the election from Al Gore.

Agreed. I'd even go so far as to say that Limp Dick Cheney is acting out so the "Bush" family seems rational by comparison. Thus allowing the possibility for another attempted Bush Coup.

O.K. I'll take my tinfoil hat off now.

17. Bush had no difficulty questioning Clinton in 2000

We have a number of disconnects in this country. One is that Bill Clinton is somehow responsible for the events of Sept. 11, 2001, a claim made both by die-hard Clinton haters and others who feel Sept. 11 was revenge for the bombing of Osama bin Laden's Afghanistan training camps in 1998.

In 1996 -- on Sept. 9, to be precise -- Clinton asked Congress for $1 billion to improve airport security, to improve security at our nation's infectious-disease laboratories and to require that chemical markers be put in explosives to make them easier to trace, plus a host of other provisions designed to make air travel safer and to discourage terrorist attacks.

Nor did he weaken America's military might, as George W. Bush suggested in his acceptance speech in Philadelphia in 2000.
You'll recall that speech. It's the one in which Bush said the Democrats couldn't be trusted to preserve the national wealth created during the Clinton administration. Hanging on to that money, and using it wisely, was a job for Republicans, Bush said.
He also lamented "a steady erosion of American power and an unsteady exercise of American influence."
"Our military is low on parts, pay and morale," Bush said sadly. "If called on by the commander-in-chief today, two entire divisions of the Army would have to report, "Not ready for duty, sir.'"

In other words, Bush was full of it when he accused Clinton of maintaining a weak military machine
Don't Blame Clinton For Sept. 11
