Also might want to mention the oft neglected fact that Obama's tax plan offered lower taxes than McCain's plan to 80% of all taxpayers.

I am head of one of the oldest civil rights organizations in LA County. I don't get national coverage but local. I can't imagine what you must be going through right now. I joke about being an authority. "I am not an expert I just give good quotes to the media that is what makes me an authority." The real heroes are the ones whose stories I hear and I just have the ability to be of influence those in power to get something positive done.

1. It is a high honor. Be pleasant. Be courageous. Be firm. Smile.

2. Don't allow them to distract you with amateur debate tactics. Your point is the most important. That is why they have you on. If they try to distract you with what THEY want to talk about then you might as well not be there. There have been several articles on the debate tactics of the right. You can google them. I wish I had a link. I really really do. But any article that mentions the tactic of "What do you think about what someone else said?".... is good. Because you don't want to give your opinion on what you think about what someone else thinks. You want to tell what YOU THINK.

3. This is technical. Ethos. Pathos. Logos. Ethos-You must display integrity. You must have ethics. ... Pathos- You must have a story. implicit or what ever. Something that touches the human spirit. I know you may not have time. But just think on this. And save it for other battles. Logos- You must be logical and factual. And above all... truthful. Please incorporate these three concepts in every thing you present and you will be invulnerable.

4. Talking points. I don't really know what they are going to hit you with or your background but my fave raves on this topic are:

a. largest tax cut in history. 282B over 2 years. According to the Wall Street Journal Jan 2009 Bush's first two years of tax cuts amounted to $174 billion. A second batch in 2004 and 2005 cost $231. Real vs constant dollars never meant any thing to Newt Gingrich and John Cashich(sp) when arguing over Medicare reforms. So there! Were they duplicitous too?


b. How much do you pay in Federal income tax? Warren Buffet in 2006 paid 17.7% in Fed tax on his gross earnings. Any one who pays more is ... an idiot. Ask any one who gives you a hard time that. Its full disclosure. Its being truthful with the audience. Its only a percentage. Its no numbers and it has to be on GROSS income. Use that only if you get in a jam.

c. GWB budget (the number) without war BO budget (the number) with war. So whats the real difference? Anyone have a clue? Gee I have never heard a RWer come up with that answer.

d. Tell me WHAT could HAPPEN again. Fascist Germany? Stalinist Russia? You are talking about different countries with different cultures. Different histories. Different values. NOT AMERICA. They didn't share our values, our system of government, our history. WADDYA MEAN? Are you saying our country is weak? Our country can succumb to the racist bigoted nazi influence? The russians threw off a king and replaced it with communism. We threw off a king and replaced it with a republic. And we will keep it thank you very much.

e. My all time favorite... if you hear anyone say an out right falsehood. Challenge them and if they insist its true. (this is a two step process sort of taste the bait then snap the hook) Then challenge them to "put their job on it". If that is false just never come back on this show. "You believe in personal responsibility don't you?" Do it with a smile. And make the same claim your self. "If I said something that was untrue I would hide under a rock for twenty years." or something like that. Does your credibility good.

Good luck and good hunting. And as my dear mother would say. "Don't say Ummm " Really she would watch me on TV and all I would get was ... "You said Ummm twice. Finally after years of working on this She would say... "You didn't say "Ummm" Well the City of Burbank named a room after her and deservedly so.

I was looking for those graphs just the other day to show to some people in a chat room I'm in. I'll try and force myself to stomach foxnews for that hour on Monday. Stand strong and don't let those fuckers try and talk over you or intimidate you. You know you're right - but often foxnews is like ambush journalism so they will probably try to counter your claims with various crap. If there's any way you could guess what their side of the argument will be you can be ready for it and smack um down! Regardless - congrats and even if it falls through, your article and those graphs are great. :hi:

They interviewed the people at those "parties". The vast majority of them don't even understand the original concept of the Boston Tea Party and what they are protesting against.

Apparently the hundreds of people at that party all have an annual net taxable income of more than $250,000 since they are protesting against a higher marginal tax rate (that 4.6% increase from 35% to 39.6%) for the highest bracket.

Although they were also protesting against the higher sales tax rate instituted by California beginning April 1. Nevertheless, seeing as how many of them look like they send their kids to public school, and use a lot of public state government services, I don't see why they should protest against a higher sales tax rate to help bridge the $12 billion budget deficit.

Eh, screw it, we should just close down all the beaches, parks, libraries, some police and fire departments, and hundreds of public schools since people in CA don't want to pay an extra penny per dollar.

If the other guy or girl represents something other than one of the core tea party messages, then they're not really defending the tea parties, and you should say so.
Look at other fringe messages of the tea parties, you can just say something like, there ARE valuable messages that some people are promoting here, but that's not what I have a problem with.
I don't know, sounds like a "Democrat" may be used to make them seem legit, so just stress the lunacy of what most of the Tea Baggers are up to, and stress who is funding them.
Talk about astroturfing.

If you can ask the guest questions about their participation, how they first heard about it, how the movement has transformed from a Ron Paul thing initially? to at some point funded by Freedom Works or whomever, get the guest to demonstrate that the Tea Baggers are much larger than simply protests against government spending during a recession or whatever else they care about, that would be cool.

If you can get a time line of the movement maybe have that handy.

I was reading some blogs, the ron paul people seem put off by the way other groups swooped in and took over their idea.

Also, if you figure out who the other person is, let us know!
