A year ago, two years ago, when talk of getting a Democratic president in...all agreed
that it would be a long haul, and a hard buisness to try and clean up the the mess that the Bush administration and the republican party and cabal had made over the years.. Much of it going back to Reagan and how they jimmied the numbers.

From freaking day one, it has been a howl on how this administration did not get it all right from midnight.

Heck we had people going around the bend before the inauguration.

Every morning I stop by to see what the latest outrage is.

And I am never disappointed.

the people complaining may wrap themselves in the flag of righteous anger, but if you notice, none of them ever liked Obama to begin with. So they're kinda transparent.

Kucinich or someone like him would have probably lost. It would have been an immense gamble for the party to have nominated him.

30. He works tirelessly to fulfill his outsized ego.
If he wanted to actually get some of his policies passed, there are much better courses of action Rep. Kucinich could take. He chooses not to because he prefers being a DU All-Star instead.

Don't confuse grandstanding with work.

11. There are some who never did and never will accept the fact that Obama won the election.
Sad, eh, and indeed and they'll continue for the next 8 years to show dissatisfaction with each and every decision the President makes. I remember that at the end of Bill Clinton's second term, there were still people who believed rabidly that Tsongas would have made a better President.

24. Believing that some hypothetical person would have been better...
is a big stretch from refusing to accept the fact that someone else won. Maybe Tsongas (and the VP which inherited his incomplete second term) would have been better? It's arguable that Bill's Monica problem brought us GW.

There are undoubtedly candidates who would have acted immediately to get us out of Iraq. There are candidates who would have dropped the legal defense of wiretaps and dungeons.

This president has not.

I'm not dissatisfied with every decision Obama makes. Only the bad ones.

18. unfortunately, you make it sound like people with real issues are the problem
my two biggest issues were torture and the increased militarism in the middle east.

am I supposed to lie and hide my head in the sand and say Obama is handling those issues as I would have liked?

I still support him as president, and I think he is doing a fine job in aggregate, but I will not, as a compassionate human being, ignore what he's done (or hasn't done) on my main issues.

29. I know but the idea of the way the OP is worded makes it sound like
we can't express discontent with specific things we see wrong.

that kind of attitude concerns me, because it reminds of the previous 8 years.

most people know I"m completely behind Obama, but at the same time, I do NOT approve thus far of his handling of the torture issue and ramping up troops in afghanistan.

but that's just me: those were my two core issues, so I'm not going to be happy compromising on them.

To add to the 300+ threads about the same subject we have seen over the last months. All unproductive, all encouraging flames, all decreasing the signal to noise ratio. More rhetorical chaff taking up bandwidth, encouraging negativity towards other DUers, and generally avoiding the issues themselves.

It is these kinds of OPs that are causing this place to more resemble a school playground than a place where adults meet to discuss politics.

99. actually, it sucks to be me. and my apologies with an explanation.
I was laid off in december, traveled 2,000 miles for a job that ended in march. I'm here away from my family (wife and son I haven't seen since January) and a job I was applying for that I thought I had a good chance to get fell through the same day I read your thread. I don't have enough money to pay both rent here and mortgage back home and I can't afford to move what little furniture I have here so I have to abandon it.

I was bitter and angry and took it out on this thread (and you). I'm really sorry about that. I didn't realize that is what I was doing at the time...I kind of came to my senses this morning.

again, my apologies.

I wish you well and hope it all turns out for the best. I am sitting on pins and needles right now, I still have my job, but cutbacks are coming in July. I think I am okay, but it until August first comes, it is anybodys guess.

But being away from your family, wow that has to be so tough.. Much tougher than anything most of us are facing right now..

31. Long-haul my ass. Simply opening a mouth and saying "It is our duty to prosecute."
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 03:12 PM by pat_k
. . .is enough. Just like simple duty that was demanded of each Member of Congress: to open their mouths and say "We must impeach and remove Bush and Cheney."

A whole bunch of "us" have persistently and consistently called on our elected officials to do what duty compels. Congress failed. We will never erase the stain of that failure.

But now it is Obama's turn to speak. To open his mouth and tell the American people the truth: "We know all we need to know. American principle, U.S. Code, and International Law demands one thing: The Immediate Prosecution of Bush and Cheney and the other government officials who ordered Americans to torture."

To "denounce" torture, and then use the power to office to protect the torturers from impeachment/prosecution is irrational at best, duplicitous at worse. And tragically for Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Holder, Panetta, and the "loyal Democrats" who have been following suit, it also makes one an accomplice to War Crimes.

To point these truths is not "outrageous" -- it is desperately needed "tough love."

52. When there are things that are doable..
.. but are not being done, should we just sit on our thumbs and whistle? How are our politicians, especially a president who is pretty much stuck in a vacuum created long before he ever took the office, supposed to know how the people feel unless we tell them? Because it's plain as day that there are lobbyists and corporations who have their ears, and they have a much easier time getting access than any of us do.

75. People who are critical of Obama should be BANNED!
And they need their posts deleted. If they vote anti-Obama in DU polls, BAN THEM! I would like the admins to pick a few of our best DUers to start a corp to mark people for banning. We need to coordinate efforts better to purify this place of the stench.

79. It is?
I would think it would be one of the success stories of DU. I mean, why all these posts about others and then question the few times you succeed in reaching people? Isn't that what you're trying to do?

....

I'm sorry, I shouldn't use that tone with you. Your unwavering commitment has been an inspiration to me.

What am I going to do.. fall apart, run to Skinner, "people are calling me names" or stand by my commitment and principles, and keep on keeping on..

Kucinich is great and he gets unfairly bashed here (without him, it would be more ho-hum in Washington - what we need are rabble-rousers,) but even he would have to see the big picture.

87. A very left, very long time poster was banned today
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 09:28 PM by Marrah_G
For being too left.

For criticizing government for the same things she has been criticizing for 8 long years here.

For speaking her mind in a clear and polite manner about issues that effect her family directly.

You should be rejoicing.

She has been silenced.

One less voice to question Obama or the Dems.

One less voice.

One less voice.

Many others will follow, by choice or not.

When you complain about dissent...be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

All that will be left will be a center moderate fansite.

I don't think that is what you want.

But that is the result when you crush dissent.

After tonight DU might be a quiter or more positive place with puppy threads and picture threads.

But the discussion, the debate, that is slowly dying.

(I want to make something clear to you...I don't dislike you. I am glad we are both democrats, i bet we have way more in common then we disagree on. in fact i bet we disagree less on the goal and more on the how to get there part. Shutting down conversation, even conversation we disagree with, hurts us all. your post, whether you intended it or not shuts down that discourse. Posts like yours cause good people to be driven away and in the end we all lose. You will end up with an echo chamber and echo chambers never live long)

88. I just got back from looking at general discussion and found the threads on the poster
I don't know if I ever chatted with her or not, but always sad to see people banned.

I have seen other people banned and back in a very quick span of time.

Maybe she will be back soon.

We are all here as guests of the moderators in the end.

Who knows, who will go next, maybe me.

I seem to get on peoples nerves pretty easily.

Ask the mods to reconsider Marrah, they seem like reasonable people

90. Marrah I have always enjoyed our banters back and forth
As you can see, I take very little personally. I spent 11 years at another board under constant attack from right wingers that makes our little dustups among like thinking progressives a walk in the park. I never get angry, and I never back down..

I will always have your back in the foxhole, but you may not want to spend an afternoon having coffee with me,

98. From long before freaking day one...
...it's been a howl about what's wrong with the nation and what ought to be done.

Obama is sitting in the big chair now, a willing target of the howls. Post bush/Cheney, we can't afford many more missteps, so we will continue to howl.

You're welcome.
