Right-wing extremism may be on rise, report says
(CNN) -- Right-wing extremist groups may be using the recession and the election of the nation's first African-American president to recruit members, a Department of Homeland Security report contends.

Though the nine-page report said it has "no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence," it said real-estate foreclosures, unemployment and tight credit "could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past."

The report, prepared in coordination with the FBI and published April 7, was distributed to federal, state and local law enforcement officials under the title "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

It compares the current climate the 1990s, "when right-wing extremism experienced a resurgence fueled largely by an economic recession, criticism about the outsourcing of jobs, and the perceived threat to U.S. power and sovereignty by other foreign powers."

1. First step
Do something about Faux News. I have a degree in journalism and used to work for ABC, and I personally would have no problem if they fined them out of existence. There's nothing illegal about advocacy journalism, but it is illegal to LIE ABOUT IT. They have been lying to the people for years by advertising themselves as fair and balanced. I figure they owe quite a few millions in fines and lawsuits by now.

Also, if the United States' invasion of Iraq was illegal, and our use of torture illegal, and Faux News advocated for both of them, aren't they liable? Wasn't Hitler's propaganda master Goebbels found to be liable? I would actually argue that Faux News owes a lot more than money. Some of those assholes that work there owe some serious jail time.

there always a half dozen Glen Beck threads on the Latest/Greatest Page? Is he paying someone at DU for publicity? If the progressive blogosphere didn't go into hyperventilation at every inane comment made on FNC, some of these people wouldn't have a career. But, they've figured out that if they say something stupid or inciteful, all they have to do is sit back and wait for the blogosphere & progressive radio to react. Free publicity. If you think about it, it's genius, really. We've made celebrities out of these nuts.

4. Scarborough is mocking this report this morning.
Trying to make it sound like some sort of witch hunt being ginned up against conservatives in general.
