I met Earl Grey this morning and I wasn't impressed
I seldom drink tea in the morning but with all this talk of tea parties I suddenly had this urge for a cup of tea. In the cupboard there was a box of Earl Grey which someone had given me for Christmas probably 30 years ago so I brewed a cup of tea. It tasted like warm dish water. I got suckered into tea party mania and should have known better.

1. Yikes!
30 years old? Tea becomes stale, ya know. Go buy yourself some fresh. I like mint tea, myself.

2. I'm sorry to read this. Try something newer. Go get some Darjeeling or new
Earl Grey.

Or something by Lipton:

11. only if something masks its taste
ugh...so nasty. Earl Grey is almost as nasty as most pure green teas, though.

Jasmine green tea is not bad, though.

21. I clicked on this post
to tell you about Jasmine green tea. That's mostly the way I drink my green tea too - it's really yummy. A really good brand is Uncle Lee's tea. :)

5. It tasted like warm dish water because it was 30 years old. Get some fresh stuff and make sure
the water is boiling, not just hot. Add just a splash of milk and a pinch of sugar if you prefer, or a little shot of honey is good in it, too.

22. Actually I usually don't. I usually drink it straight. But when I was overseas in

Northern Ireland in college, we'd start off the day in the office with a communal biscuit and a cuppa, and I found that they made the tea so bloody strong that it would literally take the paint off your stomach if you didn't cut it with something. With milk and sugar was the only way I could drink it, and since everyone else there took milk and sugar too, it just seemed "oh well, when in Rome"...I have since returned to drinking it straight up.

But if you have a sore throat, a spoon of honey in a hot cuppa really helps.

Although we'll have no tea-bagging please, let's settle this without resorting to lewd behaviour. Step outside. Choose your gun:

16. it's good, huh?
I've seen it in the stores...
maybe I'll try a box...is it robust?

My very favorite is Murchie's CBC 60th Anniversay Blend,
but it is cost prohibitive at the moment for me to have it shipped.

Tea taste is so individual...
Been trying all sorts of new ones...
I like it strong, hearty, robust...
Irish Breakfast type.

19. isn't Earl Grey supposed to taste like dishwater?
I've always felt it had a soapy flavor, when served at diners I end up scouring the cup for dishwasher residue, but I think that's really how it's supposed to taste, the same way Lapsang Souchong is supposed to taste like a cigarette butt.

26. garbage in, garbage out
With all due respect to those who disfavor my personal favorite Earl Grey tea; did you really think trying any foodstuff out of your cupboard that was 30 years old is a fair try at it in any way shape or form?

I daresay hold your favorite food in the cupboard for 30 years and try it out, I think you'll find it rather disgusting.

31. I hate the taste of Earl Grey tea but haven't had any in a long time
I just remember I hated it and avoid it. Is it the one that tastes sorta like anise/licorice? That particular flavor doesn't agree with me. I remember thinking Earl Grey tea tastes kind of "gray" if gray were a taste :p
