Thousands of people at 8,000 seperate sites protested last week
and didn't get a second of national airtime. The Day of Silence was on Friday and at thousands of colleges, high schools and even some middle schools, students stayed silent to protest the enviroment for LGBT students. We got no coverage on the three networks. To my knowledge we got no coverage on the cable networks either. Yes, this is the thirteenth year but it also had the sadly timely death, and birthday of, Carl Walker-Hoover April 17, 1997- April 9, 2009. It would have been nice to see just one hundredth of the coverage the tea bag protests got.

2. Lots of kids in my son's middle school participated.
He said that one girl got up in front of one of his classes and told the class what the Day of Silence was all about. She got a very positive reaction. It did make me think that we have come a long way, in some respects (but with a very, very long way to go). Something like that never would have happened when I was in junior high school 30 years ago.

My kids' peers look upon discrimination against gay people as a very bad thing, and that bodes well for these younger generations and the change they will make.

5. I make no bones about it
I wouldn't have had the guts to participate when I was in high school in the early 80's. I won't use the word coward but I wasn't brave enough to own my gayness.

6. That's the way I see it.

I work with students of various ages. The attitudes have shifted in a positive direction these last few years, just as your example shows.

Still a long, long, march, though.

3. Of course not
your protests didn't help the rwing agenda at this time. Kindly remember that Faux and the rest of the MSM isn't interested in humanizing LGBTs and showing that they have been the victims of violence. That doesn't win them ratings or bring in money from the power brokers. Now rest assured if there had been any way for them to warp the message to make LGBT folks look SCARY and THREATENING to the Faux viewers, they would have done it. But otherwise, no.
