Remember how people thought that Obama would crumble in the face of the Right Wing Attack Machine?
I'd like to see those people eat their words now.

The Republicans have gone full steam in the last month or so, firing every single ugly thing they can dream up at President Obama. What's more. every single red-faced talking point has had its day on conservative media networks such as Fox News, the New York Post, and the like: Naivete! Arrogance! Weakness! Messiah-complex! Un-Christian! Unsteady! Unready! Socialism! Communism! Fascism! Anti-Americanism!

And it just rolls off his back. He's working extraordinarily hard and touching upon so many different issues, and yet he still manages to deflect all of this with something our country has sorely missed over the last 8 years: a simple show of competence. He has been consistently, transcendently competent in working with the uncooperative elements in Congress, in bringing foreign leaders to the table, in handling International crises, and now in cleaning up the messes of the guy who nearly ran the Office into the ground.

THAT'S why the Right Wing is going crazy right now--the Machine is operating at full capacity and yet the only thing happening is that the old "Bush base" is getting so insanely angry that they're damaging the stability of the GOP itself. To use a superhero metaphor, Obama's not bulletproof like Superman; he's more like The Flash. The bullets don't bounce off him, but he sees them coming from a mile away, and he and his team are able to pick them out of the air and hand them back to his assailants.

I know, I know--I'm a kool-aid drinker. I'm a lockstepper. I should be more cynical. I shouldn't be so content. And yet...if the last 100 days are indication, Obama is proving to be one AWESOME President.

1. Lockstepper!!11!!11
You should have bought every bullshit theme the MSM threw at ya!

You should have used a microscope to criticize every little Obama move (and thus miss the big picture).

You should have jumped on the faux outrage bandwagon caravan (pick your wagon) because to be "progressive" we must hold him to a high standard!

In short, you should have just become "one of them"!!!

"They" are the jackasses that dress their hatred of the president in righteous indignation, and defend it by declaring themselves more genuinely "progressive" than you or I.

I'm with you, Bicoastal.

Pass the KoolAid!

2. They are only making him stronger.
They think that using the tactics that up to the last few years were so succesful would still work, the childish name-calling, the outright lies, the innuendo...matters not. It's not working, and they are whipping themselves into a breathless frenzy as they get more strident and outrageous.

It ain't workin'.

Our guy is cool. He has that little half-smile that must drive the hate machine operators into overdrive. They are being played like a cheap fiddle.

My President.

10. I think the Clinton days are a key point
Some of us have heard this bullshit story before. I can understand the under 35 crowd getting nervous with every FAUX outrage.

Flame away, but those over thirty five falling for this shit need to chill the fuck out.

No ducking smilies, I am itching for a brawl!

Gotta go to dinner though so it may have to wait until tomorrow.

8. The right is livid, and Obama is holding them off with one finger to their foreheads
and they are swinging wildly and sputtering, but they can't land a punch, and that makes them more livid.

I freakin' LOVE it! :bounce:

12. That was one of the Clintons' central arguments...
...WE'VE been through it and know how to handle them. HE doesn't.

I remember this from the primary fights quite vividly, though I am DEFINITELY not trying to re-ignite them.

20. The Oak and the Willow - Aesop's Fables
Oak and Willow.

In a controversy betwixt an Oak and a Willow, the oak upbraided the willow, that it was weak and wavering, and gave way to every blast; while he scorned, he said, to bend to the most raging tempests, which he despised as they whistled by him. A little while after this dispute, it blew a most violent storm. The willow plied and gave way to the gust, and still recovered itself again, without receiving any damage: but the oak, stubbornly resisting the hurricane, was tore up by the roots.

Moral
There are many cases in which a man must either bend or break; and although no exigency can justify departure from our duty, yet where it does not effect this, it is wise to comply with necessity or yield to the humour of others, rather than to resist to our own destruction.

One of Obama's strengths is his flexibility - he can adapt and adjust. The Republicans are stuck in their unbending ways.

The most important trait I see is his strength. He hasn't caved in to them. He hasn't tried to tried to prove he's like them in order to attract moderate voters. Amen!

25. I don't think people buy into attack dog style talking points anymore
Americans have figured out how to sniff out a shoddy smear campaign. Back in Clinton's days, when this tactic from the Right really became popular...it was brand new and people ate it up. Now, after 8 years of the worse President in modern American history, a historic recession, and two failed wars...people have comepletely tuned out the Right!

26. "People"??? Who thought or said that?
Is this the "some people" that the cable news people are always talking about?

I always figured that if Obama could stand up to the Clinton machine, he could stand up to almost anything.

30. He's said it before: "Yeah, I don't do cowering."
His apparent quiet leads some folks to believe that he's not a fighter, but I wouldn't want to be Obama's opponent in a political campaign.

And I'd say he's more like Batman--sure, the bullets won't bounce off, and he does get hit once in a great while (see: Reverend Wright), but the other 99% of the time he's already secretly replaced the gun with one that will explode in the wielder's face when the trigger is pulled.
