If Bush had gotten involved with AG Gonzales in prosecuting Clinton
all the people bitching about Obama would be spitting venom right now. And for good reason. Because the PRESIDENT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO INFLUENCE THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. IT IS AN INDEPENDENT ARM. Why are some idiots not getting that?

1. OK. So How Can Obama Tell Holder Not To Prosecute The "Only Following Orders" Crowd?
Either the AG is independent, or he ain't.

2. He won't. But would that make Manny happy? Obama
has already divorced himself from what AG Holder does.

So sorry Manny isn't happy.

5. Sorry, Here's The Correct Link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8006597.stm

So your contention is that the DOJ wasn't independent before it was? And both of those situations are OK?

7. No, I'm saying it's now in Holder's hands. Obama has less than
100 days at the helm, Holder has even less.

Chill.

8. So You're Saying That The DOJ Wasn't Independent A Week Ago
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 11:08 PM by MannyGoldstein
But now it is independent? The OP states that the DOJ should always be independent. Actually, the reality is that the DOJ is not independent, but the courts are, which is precisely why we have judicial oversite of things like incarceration and wiretapping. (Of course, Obama is battling in the courts to end those as well.)

Pardon me for not chilling. I grew up watching movies of piles of emaciated bodies, stacked like cordwood, being bulldozed into mass graves in Germany and Eastern Europe. I might have even seen my relatives in those films. War crimes must not stand, ever: and we have confessed war criminals. They must be prosecuted or pardoned, or we have been reduced to a banana republic or worse.

9. I responded to your statement.
Yes, war crimes should be and will be addressed. But Chill, Manny. We just spent 8 years with the dim one. Why you aren't happy with what has happened in less that 100 days is beyond me.

We have major problems that need to be addressed. The past is the past, and it's good for all of us to know it can and should be revisited.

10. Because Obama Is Trying To Sweep War Crimes Under The Rug
These are crimes. Serious crimes - the most serious of all. They must not be swept under the rug, as the Administration is clearly trying to do.

6. Thank You. I want the Obama Administration to stay out of Holder's business.
If not, we'll have a repeat, equivalent to the firings of the DOJ attorneys who were let go for polical reasons. I'm hoping that people will calm down and respect the separation of powers, or we're doomed to become what we supposedly said we hated, during the Bush years.

11. Absolutely
did we learn NOTHING from the Gonzales situation??? Oh I get it they want Obama to be the big bad Shaft type dude and comes in and kicks everyone's ass well too damn bad, that's not how it works. Again, OBAMA DID HIS PART. HE RELEASED THE DAMN MEMOS. Now the ball is in AG HOlder's court. Either take a refresher course in civics or STFU.
