LA Times: 'Obama's liberal arrogance will be his undoing'
(Arrogance or confidence? Jonah's struggling to tell the difference. Either way, he sounds like an unhappy bunny to me. Aw.)

The hubris and overreaching of the left sets the stage for the political correction sure to come.

Jonah Goldberg - April 28, 2009

The most remarkable, or certainly the least remarked on, aspect of Barack Obama's first 100 days has been the infectious arrogance of his presidency.

There's no denying that this is liberalism's greatest opportunity for wish fulfillment since at least 1964. But to listen to Democrats, the only check on their ambition is the limits of their imaginations.

.....Meanwhile, circulation for the conservative National Review (where I work) is soaring. More people watch Fox News (where I am a contributor) in prime time than watch CNN and MSNBC combined. The "tea parties" may not have been as big as your typical union-organized "spontaneous" demonstration, but they were far more significant than any protests this early in Bush's tenure......

.....Obama has surely helped set the tone for the unfolding riot of liberal hubris......On social issues such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research, Obama has proved to be, if anything, more of a left-wing culture warrior than Bush was a right-wing one. All the while, Obama transmogrifies his principled opponents into straw-man ideologues while preening about his own humble pragmatism. For him, bipartisanship is defined as shutting up and getting in line.

I'm not arguing that conservatives are poised to make some miraculous comeback. They're not. But American politics didn't come to an end with Obama's election, and nothing in politics breeds corrective antibodies more quickly than overreaching arrogance. And by that measure, Obama's first 100 days have been a huge down payment on the inevitable correction to come.

1. Wait till the budget passes, they'll really howl.
I wonder if the pubs thought they'd say no and Obama would cave in to them?

2. Oh, put a sock in it!
Jesus! Did he achieve a crushing electoral victory or not? Did the D's take back Congress in '06 and then acheive huge majorities in '08 or not? The public took a chance on Obama and are apparently confident that it has paid off.

11. Jonah Goldberg -- so what do you expect.
I have yet to see honest coverage from Jonah Goldberg.

I clicked in to the thread thinking that the LA Times certainly has had too many disappointingly conservative articles for quite some time now, and wondering how they'd be pitching this story.

Then I saw the byline and knew in an instant-- smug self-righteous Jonah Goldberg wrote the story, so what else could we expect from him?

Here our country is in a desperate situation that the Obama Administration is doing its best to fix and this clown is saying it is all about "liberal hubris!"

Maybe this is "liberalism's greatest opportunity for wish fulfillment" because the past 8 years of Republican policies of tax cuts for the top 5% and war profiteering and deregulation led to the Bush Depression.

What we have in this article is actually a demonstration of the opposite of its premise-- Desperate Right Wing Hubris in the face of the overwhelming failure of their policies. a.k.a. Sour Grapes.

12. Arrogance=to exaggerate ones own importance. One of the most important
people in the world is considered arrogant and a mealy-mouthed wanna-be "journalist" is.......? They/he truly doesn't know the meaning of the word irony.

I do hope his and his fellow whiny peers are inoculated against introspection by their ironic indignation.
Because this whine certainly isn't wooing any voters.

15. Jonah, the doughy pantload
And maybe the tea parties were bigger than anything this early in the previous administration because Bush spent the first 8 months of his tenure assiduously avoiding doing anything. And even when we did protest him, we never got the fawning coverage the teabaggers got on Fox.

17. More right wing flailing. No real criticisms, so they resort to "liberal arrogance"
If Goldberg had anything real to criticize Obama for, he wouldn't have to cheap shot it with a tired right wing cliche. What Goldberg and the teabaggers (I just love that term) actually resent about Obama is that he won the election convincingly and he has, if anything, increased his popularity since the election.

19. Great rah-rah reading for the Freepers
I have to roll my eyes at Goldberg lecturing us about how Obama is farther left than Bush was on the right.

He needs to realize that what he sees as "overreaching arrogance" is mainstream now.

21. You call that "liberal"? Elect me and I'll show you liberal!
It's sad that anyone could successfully sell Barack Obama's policies as "liberal" when they're pretty much in line with what our Founding Fathers intended America to be.

Today's conservatives are resorting to an extreme level of exaggeration that reflects their desperation.

Newspapers publish all kinds of views. Your title seems to indicate that it represents the opinion of the editorial board. It does not.

31. I think its misleading and you may want to use it differently in the future

Even very liberal papers publish wide differences of viewpoint, and I am glad that they do, but it doesn't mean that the LA Times supports or even respects the view. Its like people from DU quoting freepers; look at what the nuts are talking about now.

Really....he's just not worth it.
