his disastrous comments. Surely, he hasn't been doing that since be became VP. Yes, I know he used to, regularly.

then again, I don't work in the 'hospitality' industry.

2. Rahm probably made him. It serves JB right--it'll teach him to watch his mouth.
It was only a matter of time before he stuck a foot in it. He is a chatty laddie, after all.

I'm glad it was a small thing, not a big thing. Not "disastrous" in a big way. Fixable.

He'll be on guard in future, at least in the near term!

They keep a person from absentmindedly touching their nose or mouth, which are two of the portals of entry for viruses (the third being the eyes).

16. Who am I - a mere mortal - to advise demigods?
Ordinary doctors are typically insufferable enough as it is, so imagine the immense egos of those upon whom the title of 'expert' is conferred.

I'm no medical expert, but common sense tells us that keeping your dirty fingers off your face is always a good thing - never more so than during a flu outbreak.

51. The main benefit of masks is to prevent an infected person from spreading the virus.
It also depends on the mask; a painters mask is much more effective because it seals better.

That is why nurses wear N95 masks in the hospital when dealing with infectious patients. The surgical masks are pretty useless as they don't filter such small particles.

He did not want to give up riding on Amtrak completely. He even talks about it to Gloria Borger of CNN during an interview a few weeks ago. I remember him talking about it. Here is part of the transcipt of the interview from CNN:

BIDEN: What surprised me the most is the degree of security that surrounds the vice president. I never anticipated that. I've been around a long, long time and I always kid them. I say, well, nobody cares very much about a vice president. There's not much to worry about.

But that's -- that's the thing that surprised me the most about it. I was very familiar, after all these years in Washington, with the way that the White House functions. But I never realized that I wouldn't be able to drive an automobile.

BORGER: Living in the bubble. You're this working class kid from Scranton, Pennsylvania in...

BIDEN: Well, as you notice, I -- I get out of the bubble. I insist that I take the train home, but there's a lot of Secret Service that ride with me. I insist when I'm home I still go to the grocery store. I still do the things I used to do, but it's a lot more cumbersome. That's the part that surprised me.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0904/07/sitroom.03.html

I do think he felt bad for making anyone panic over his comments and is probably trying to show that no one should freak out.
I think the MSM tries to make to big a deal of these "gotcha type" moments from all politicians.

34. Me thinks????????
Maybe you should admit you don't think. How many times I have heard someone say Obama has responded to criticism by saying I won. He won because first of all, voters are desperate. And I might add poorly informed. We no longer have news, only entertainment networks with political agendas.

Much of that agenda is simply stirring the pot, agitating viewers, playing both sides of all issues, and boosting revenue. Obama rode the crest of public dissatisfaction without any real commitment to any course of action. Of course he didn't need to. He had the support of the anyone but bush crowd. I am reminded of bush and his wmds'. Every time I turned on the tube I expected to see dumb ass and dick face standing by what used to be a poorly constructed float in some small town parade. And claiming that at last they has found a wmd. Well, they didn't need to tell that lie because they had the automatic support of millions of stupids.

You are no different. You automatically defend this planet hating idiot. His behavior has been exactly what could be expected from someone from the ghetto who never in his life woke up with a dollar in his pocket. But now that he has a seemingly endless tax payer funded bank account he can make wall street richer, and the dictator will allow no discussion.
And indiscriminate people as yourself seem to automatically support Obama. I seriously doubt you could offer one area you disagree with him. That makes you a dope on a rope, a puppet on a string. Even you probably understand my drift. But you are a puppet.

24. Biden speaks up
How unbelievably sad. The vice president of the United States of America doesn't have a right to an opinion. In fact, if someone in the new regime, that I now have concluded is nothing but a continuation of the anti American thinking of the last regime, disagrees with his comments, they not only will say they disagree with his opinion, they will actually correct the actual words he spoke, and say what he meant. Am I the only one that has noticed Dennis Kucinich doesn't say much anymore? Al Gore has backed off. He said at one time that he could support bio fuel if it was done carefully. Is it OK to pee in a swimming pool if you do it carefully? That statement was a contradiction of an earlier position if I recall. Obama serves meals in the white house that was reported from an untrusted source, cnn, to cost $100 for the serving of Japanese beef per person. Just the beef. That must make American farmers proud. He flies a pizza maker in from St. Louis to make a pizza. Who paid for that? He fired the ceo of GM, presumably for not being fiscally responsible. Is that the pot calling the kettle black or what. This asshole is a Dictator. He is bush's identical twin. I opposed McCain because he is a delusional liar. We have been 8 years and counting without a president. It's time for a change that we can believe in, and Obama will only satisfy the blind and ignorant.

tried to put words in Joe's mouth.
They should have defended him and not let the media rip him to shreds all day.
It's called loyalty - teamwork. All they would have had to say is that they are aware that alot of people feel like the VP does about travel, but according to the CDC restricting travel is not necessary at this time. Bingo - Joe's comments would have been a non-story.

30. Agree about the "putting words in his mouth" thing. When I heard
that the WH had essentially apologized for Joe, it pissed me off. I mean, the guy is a grown man; he doesn't need someone else explaining what it was he said (and it fact, what they "explained" wasn't what he said).

And they should have defended him, no doubt.

If something Joe says needs explaining, or backtracking, or apologizing for, then Joe should be the one to do it. And he's man enough to do so. He doesn't need a babysitter. I think the WH just make things worse, not better, by doing what they did.

43. It only made it look worse by trying to spin his comments imo. Just say it was Joe being Joe and
move on. I wouldn't have said "this is what he really meant." I would have just said the VP was probably just being very over protective of his own family (after all he once lost two loved ones in a terrible way) but there is no need to panic. I get that Obama did not want to have anyone panic but by trying to twist Joe's words around they made the whole thing look worse.
Also, the nutty poster with the 7 posts does not get that when if criticize our Prez we still like them and support him.

VP to visit Wilmington, Del. train station
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Delaware on Monday, where he is to attend the official kickoff event for the renovated Wilmington train station and discuss wind power at the University of Delaware in Newark.

Biden is scheduled to speak at the Amtrak station at 11 a.m. and appear in Newark at 1 p.m. Biden will be joined by Gov. Jack Markell at both events.

Biden has commuted on Amtrak for decades between his home in Wilmington and Washington.
