WP source guesses as to Obama's top three choices, who would you choose?
Edited on Tue May-05-09 11:16 PM by usregimechange
The lawyer who has been consulted by the administration said that if the candidates were divided into groups representing the judiciary, academia and politics, the likely front-runners would be Judge Diane P. Wood of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit; Elena Kagan, Obama's solicitor general and the former dean of Harvard Law School; and Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm (D), a Harvard Law graduate whose background running a large state dealing with severe hardship may qualify as the experience Obama is seeking.

I am going to have to go with Jennifer Granholm at this point.

2. I've wanted Jennifer Granholm from the beginning.
Oh we're talking about the SC?

Well the answer is still the same.

8. Some of the best justices were governors. I like Granholm
and I also like Gregoire as possible justices.

9. Supreme Court's worth it. She could serve 40 years.
And she's term-limited as Michigan gov.

I'm rooting for Granholm. She's had an interesting life, and it would be nice to have someone on the Supreme Court with a little more perspective than the typical gunner.

7. I still say Wardlaw is the best choice, but I understand she's not in the WaPo piece
Of the three options presented, I'd favor Wood.

I'm against Granholm because:

a) her states has enough problems already without having to break in a new Governor
b) as a poster said, let's leave some Dem Governors on the job
c) I think the best way, on this particular pick, to handle the onslaught of GOP whining is to give them as little as possible to object to on technical, non-ideological grounds (i.e. "but, she's not a judge")

10. Ideologically I prefer Diane Wood
It's pretty clear that she would be an unabashed but fair Liberal on the court. Granholm has 8 years on her though, and doesn't appear to be a bad choice. Her lack of judicial experience lends ammo to those who would oppose her but if we would just grow a damned spine we can shove almost anyone through. I could live with either choice.

11. I like Jennifer Granholm for the same reason I like Hillary for it.
I think we need to inject into the court a solid dose of Democratic ideals, at the core political level. One thing that politicians bring is a better sense of the where the public heart is.

Both are qualified from the standpoint of legal training and knowledge.
