Specter is about to be a man without a party,
SGeesh he is looking like he does not know who he is any more.

"I did not tell the President that I would be a loyal Democrat"

"Ooops did I say Norm Coleman, I meant errrrr um Al Franken...really I did"

Now this guy is complaining about the unamimous vote of the caucus regarding his seniority?????

Sheesh Senator, You are getting to the point where no one is going to want to endorse you let alnoe elect you for another six years.

Hey Cornyn We'll give you Specter back for Olympia Snowe. LOL

What? You don't want him? Aww come on. Hey Orrin Do you really think that Toomey is unslectable? Talk to Cornyn tell him this is a good deal.

You get Specter back. We run Sestak (who can't beat Specter :sarcasm:) and we get Snowe as consolation,

1. Specter has completely stepped on his dick. He basically had
the next election sewn up. Not so much anymore.

10. That's wrong, Specter was in danger before the gaffes
As a PAer I can tell you Specter was NOT safe and did not have the election sewn up before his mistakes, for several reasons.

-He had at least one primary challenger already who had refused to step down

-As soon as he switched the GOP began to look for an alternative to Toomey, in both Gerlach and Ridge, two guys who would be a tough candidate for most democrats to beat (though Specter could probably easily defeat Gerlach, as in my opinion the real reason Gerlach survived in 2006/2008 is us running weak candidates against him, I mean his biggest win ever was 52% against a little known badly underfunded challenger).

-Despite how many online seemed convinced that a moderate prochoice person like Ridge couldn't win the GOP nomination here I must strongly disagree as a PAer, Ridge has not had to take a stance on stuff like the stimulus bill (that caused Specter's GOP numbers to collapse) which means that Toomey's #1 weapon against Specter won't work on Ridge. On top of all that a poll out today showed Ridge ahead of Toomey by more then a 2 to 1 margin in the primary.

14. I won't vote for Arlen.
I don't care if he has a D or an R after his name.

17. So, if he runs as the Dem in the general election, you won't vote for him?
You'll risk sending Toomey to the Senate? Seriously?

16.  Well, I'm a PAer too. So I guess my opinion is as good as yours.
If Specter runs in the GE against Toomey, he will crush him. He had that sewn up without any doubt. Now that he has refused to play ball with the Dems, an alternative candidate such as Ridge will make it very hard for him to win the GE - Specter needs the Democratic votes to beat any Republican other than Toomey.

12. ...a friend of mine once amplified that expression by adding "....with golf shoes."
Which describes Senator Specter's condition well.

23. No he didn't
He would have lost to Toomey in the primaries and PA has a sore loser law that would have prevented him from doing what Lieberman did (run in another party).

4. Maybe the Anti-Masons will take him.
There must be one or two somewhere.

But hell, he'd probably greet them with a Masonic handshake now that I think about it.

5. I suspect he'll get the hint by losing seniority
And if he doesn't get in line, he's welcome to leave.

6. That message had to be sent., I 'm surprised Reid had the guts to do it.
It's Specter's call now. If he plays ball with the Dems, he'll probably be re-elected. If not, he can kiss the PA Dem vote goodbye. And he will absolutely need the PA Dem vote if he's running against Ridge.

8. Ridge would have to move back to Pennsylvania
And there is no guarantee that Ridge could beat the other guy for the repug primary.

20. He needs to join the Independent Democratic Party with LIEberman.
They can cry over all their self inflicted wounds until voters finally wake up and boot them out.

21. Maybe his statement plays well in Pennsylvania
"I will represent PA, more than IL, CA, and NY". Would that be a better way of phrasing it?

I guess we have to wait for a string of votes, to see whether he is now a Democrat, or just an opportunist.

24. Did Spectre ever qualify exactly why he left the R. party?
I don't recall hearing or reading that he said anything in particular about why he took those actions...and he damned sure didn't take it, because he wanted to be Democrat...he's made that ever so clear...that, I believe, defines him as an opportunistic fool...(yes, I know I misspelled his name..but imo, it fits his actions)wb
