There is one thing Obama could do now to protect gay and lesbian servicemembers:

He could issue an executive order that no Defense budget funds were to be spent on processing the discharge of anyone being removed under DADT.

There's nothing to lose by doing that.

DADT is the law and Obama should try to change it by working to repeal that law. He should also do it right now as we send more troops into Afghanistan so that he can frame it as a national security issue.

2. No. They've got bigger problems. The Navy, for example, is 60,000 people smaller

than six years ago.

It's not a big issue and it was CONGRESS - Obama allies Sam Nunn and Colin Powell - that brought you Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
