State Senator Kim Hendren, the GOP's only candidate so far against Blanche Lincoln (and they may want to keep looking...), has been in politics a long time (one claim to fame is that he lost a gubernatorial race to Bill Clinton). But now he actually seems to be caught in a timewarp from a different century. Today he's trying to walk back having called Chuck Schumer "that Jew" (and, in doing so, tried using The Andy Griffith Show by way of explaining himself).

1. I love how he says he was trying to defend "traditional values" while calling Schumer "that Jew"
So where did these traditional values come from? The Old Testament? Yeah, sort of...

2. " I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say,” Hendren said.

Huh. That is one of the most innovative non-apologies I have ever heard. Note that he not only manages to repeat the offensive phrase (clearly not necessary to do that) but also that he only regrets the distraction from "what it is he was trying to say." In other words, he is sorry only about the shit storm he started, not for being offensive.
