He promised change, where's my change?

36. Not me, but that would be what I'm reading lately from others.
I actually think he's a realist in his administration of what are relatively idealistic goals.

Now, as our economy and democracy are in such jeopardy of never returning to anything close to fair, just fixing things will be a miracle.

But while some would prefer a strong and vocal progressive platform (that would probably only see 10% of it's planks laid), we have a president who recognizes that getting things done requires building consensus and, unfortunately, some compromise.

I'd rather have a realist with values getting things done than a progressive idealist that gets very little done.

45. That was an issue
Who was he? We didn't know much about him. We knew he could give rousing speeches. But was he a person of principle? Would he stand up and fight for what he believed in? Did he believe in anything? These were the unknowns. Sadly, the blanks are being filled in. All we have found out is he can still give a good speech.

5. I never thought he was a progressive
In fact I argued with people right on this forum about that before he was even nominated.

I did hope he would keep his promises. But he isn't doing well on that front lately.

He is, at the end of the day, a politician.

That was the worst I ever said about him but it's true.

Now, for a politician, he is better than most of them and really the best we can get in office.

8. Exactly.
Love him or hate him or anywhere in between, he asked us to work WITH him and that means writing to him, to congress, to participate in this democracy.

Remember the gas tax concept last summer?

He stood solidly on the right side of that issue, he's a politician sure, but he's not a big fat liar.

30. But you were also bright enough to not set them to such heights as....
...to think Obama was going to push for Single Payer (mandatory) and other "progressive" things that he clearly did not support.

Some of us were paying attention.

And, like you, 18 months ago I set my sights so high as to think that this man could do it and I studied him then poured my energy and money into getting him elected.

And he hasn't disappointed me at all.

18. Look at Obama's Budget and his Stimulus Package. To say he's not a progressive is a joke or you
don't really know what a progressive is. Not to mention going after Corporate Tax Havens

Now you can be upset with him over prosecuting Bush officials or even releasing photos. But Obama is clearly the most Progressive President we've ever had. The budget and the stimulus package is nothing but a Progressive Agenda.

And I'll bet by the time he's done he'll have done more to restore the middle class than any other likely candidate could or would have.

Otherwise why erect strawman arguments? Why this condescension? Why the disdain? Why the unsubtle hint that those disagreeing with you are freepers? Can you make a cogent argument, or are you just bullying?

I'll tell you who a freeper is. You don't become a freeper by being conservative or by voting Republican. Or by bad spelling. You become one by willfully denying reason and ignoring facts, by clearly being a heartless, sociopathic bastard like Bush was (think of his WMD joke and many other instances), and by exhibiting a blind, rah-rah allegiance to your leader just because he's your leader.

Are you a freeper?

Check this out. It's on Obama's record now.

54. "The Audacity of Hope"
Should lie to rest the pretention that he is (or ever was) an "Uber-Progressive". He is clearly, at least to me, more centrist to left-of-center but, more importantly, he seems very pragmatic (i.e. isn't going to just make decisions just because he thinks that what will win him the most "brownie points" with some group or another, particularly if he ultimately believes that it's not the right one). So far, I have found most of his decisions to be informed and well thought out, which is why I'm usually more supportive of him than not but even when I don't necessarily agree with him, I feel confident, unlike with Bush, that he arrived at his decision only after thorough consideration of the given issue.
