Did you know Father Ted Hesburgh was considered to be McGovern's running mate in '72?

Obviously he chose Eagleton, but Hesburgh was toward the top of his list.

This was before the Vatican had ruled priests could not serve political office.

Hesburgh, of course, was a monumental figure in the Civil Rights era and key in getting Pres. Obama to speak at Notre Dame Sunday.

I wonder what would have happened had McGovern tapped Hesburgh?

Since I was actively working for McGovern's election...

I don't think it would have changed anything, that SOB nixon still would have won.
