Larry Wilkerson kicking ass on CNN citing how the CIA leadership has made a practice of lying--
Edited on Wed May-20-09 08:20 AM by flpoljunkie
particularly citing how they lied to Colin Powell when he was preparing to appear before the United Nations in the run up to the Iraq war. Wilkerson is, understandably, still pissed about how his boss was lied to by the CIA.

The CNN interviewer, Kiran Chetry, brought him on to talk about Nancy Pelosi, of course. Look for the video of the interview.

2. That was a thrill
and Kiran looked as if she DID NOT like what she was hearing. I imagined that she was thinking "Oooh, nooo, I'm in big trouble now!"

:applause:

7. I thought he was on with Soledad (So-So-Bad) O'Brien? Kiran Chetry has similar features.

Those drop dead gorgeous news models are easy to confuse due to their seemingly plastic perfection. ;)

15. The one I saw was Kiran Chetry
I didn't see Soledad O'Brien. If she also did a report, I didn't see it.

16. She did not. It was Kiran Chentry who interviewed Larry Wilkerson this morning.

3. A LOT of good folks work for CIA. And it was the CIA's lead counsel that advised against torture
saying it would not work, among other things.

Like a lot of people and agencies the CIA became a presidential enabler. The fault lies with the Bush Administration.

4. Wilkerson himself made a point of saying there were many good people who worked for the CIA.
His criticism was of the leadership of the CIA.

5. Yes. More people need to understand that. There's a reason GWB blamed the 'intelligence failure'
on CIA. They're good at what they do and told him not to invade. Hence, Cheney's visits there to lean on them to get what he wanted.

17. Oy yes..
That he did..and you know it wasn't so they'd tell the truth. Oh, to be a spider on that wall to hear why it was so necessary to lie.

14. FBI told them not to. CIA told them not to. Yet they did it anyway.
I don't blame the agencies at all.

I think they need to look harder in to if the torture was really done to try and create an Iraq link.

11. Wilkerson also slams the spineless leadership and lack of Congressional oversight since 2000
The man was on fire. He called the Nancy Pelosi flap a 'tempest in a teapot.' He said he knows the 'press loves it' when there is 'blood on the street,' but that the 'central issue here is torture and harsh interrogations which are against both domestic and international law.'

12. Wilkerson said Pelosi does not have the power to get incriminating evidence out of the CIA.
Edited on Wed May-20-09 10:34 AM by flpoljunkie
He said even Bobby Kennedy, who essentially ran CIA clandestine operations out of the AG office for his brother, could not do that.

Not surpringingly, Robert Shrum writes in The Week today in The Case for Nancy Pelosi, "The CIA rebuffed Pelosi’s request to release her own notes of her briefing, apparently on grounds of national security."
