The simplest solution to the "detainee torture photographs" question
If Obama/Holder were to announce today that investigations by the DOJ (or preferably an IP) would proceed immediately, I, for one, would cease to complain about Obama's position on the public release of the photos. It's not that I personally want to see the photos, it's that the photos in the public sphere will result in (hopefully!) a huge outcry for investigation and prosecution. Absent that, we get to repeatedly hear how "nobody wants" to look back etc ad nauseum and how "the public don't want Obama to be distracted by" prosecution of BushCo era crimes.

You can't have it both ways. If the reason for a lack of accountability for the prior administration is that the "public" doesn't want it, then you cannot also at the same time HIDE from that public the VERY SAME MATERIAL that would precipitate that public outcry!!

I'm so tired of hearing both arguments aligned in parallel without any recognition of how they are connected!

I DON'T WANT TO SEE THE PHOTOGRAPHS!! THAT IS *NOT* THE POINT!

1. Simpliest answer is to do what General Petraeus said to do
"lance the boil" - release them all and move on.

2. Thank you, this is perhaps the most well-reasoned post I've seen on this matter so far...
.... I hear far too many demanding the photos be made public w/out addressing the major issue that they represent.

3. The Administration's position parses to...
..."if we showed you, you'd demand that we do our jobs." There are other excuses that can be offered, of course, but this is what the White House might as well be saying.
