Rove's Revelation: The Economy Is Important
Rove's Revelation: The Economy Is Important

In his Wall Street Journal column today, Karl Rove wrote, "It is becoming clear that the economy is now the top issue."

Today, former Bush adviser Karl Rove devoted his Wall Street Journal column to slamming President Obama's handling of the economy. In addition to putting a negative spin on reports that job losses are slowing, Rove had a pretty remarkable "revelation." He wrote:

It is becoming clear that the economy is now the top issue.

That's quite a sentence. Does Rove really believe that it is only BECOMING CLEAR right NOW that the economy is the top issue? After all, it was widely reported that the economy was the most important issue when people voted in November, in the months leading up to the election, and during the primaries 16 months ago.

Rove is one of the GOP's most prominent voices. I'd imagine there are recent examples of him acknowledging the importance of the economy, but the fact that he could make such an out-of-touch statement is a pretty strong reminder of why the public just doesn't identify with Republicans right now.

For voters, that happened around mid- to late-2008-campaign.
