Jon Voight calls Obama "wildly radical," praises rw haters for helping bring end to "false prophet"
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 11:01 PM by jefferson_dem
USA TODAY's Susan Page reports that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has arrived at the congressional fundraiser tonight in Washington, D.C. Susan's e-mail: "Palin and husband just walked across empty head table stage. Scattered applause. She waved. Then the went off the other end of the stage apparently to go to their table."

The program has just started, with Rep. Paul Ryan of Texas introducing actor Jon Voight, tonight's emcee.

Palin's appearance ends a behind-the-scenes tiff between Palin and GOP officials who didn't want the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee to speak at the event. Apparently party officials were concerned that she would upstage Newt Gingrich, the keynote speaker. The governor took umbrage and threatened not to go. The Politico has been following this drama closely and reported yesterday that she wasn't going.

There was confusion about whether she would attend the fundraiser just hours before it was to start, says the Associated Press.

Updated at 8:35 p.m. ET: More from Susan Page, who says Voight gave fiery speech to a rather subdued crowd.

Voight called Obama "wildly radical" and said his policies were "disastrous," Page says. He praised Rush Limbaugh, Gingrich, Sean Hannity, Karl Rove and others for working "to bring an end to this false prophet."

No wonder the crowd was "rather subdued". Even repubs are smart enough to know when they're in the presence of a loony.

17. I would have listed John Voight and John Malkovich as two of the greatest actors in America
unfortunately they are both right-wing extremist nut-jobs. I really wish I didn't know this. It makes it hard for me to appreciate their talent anymore.

I can handle an actor I admire being a Republican. But those two are not just Republicans. They are both BAT SHIT CRAZY RIGHT-WING EXTREMIST!!

Their political beliefs extend way beyond being misguided, naive or misinformed and well into the category of morally reprehensible.

25. I don't really care
When a director like David Zucker goes to the dark side, it matters, because they start producing shit like An American Carol, but I judge actors on their performances, not their personal views.

45. I suppose I would have to agree, at least as far as judging their work
when I go to a Dentist, I don't care what their political views are since their work has no baring on it.

When an actor or other artist does work in which their political views have no baring - I suppose I should just judge their work. I can judge their political views and any political work they do on the side entirely separately.

Why Does Malkovich Want to Kill Me? by Robert Fisk

link:

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fisk/robert-fisk-why-does-john-malkovich-want-to-kill-me-605849.html

from wiki:

John Malkovich - Personal life and political views

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Malkovich

snip: "Malkovich is a political conservative, and has been described as staunchly pro-war and an ardent supporter of the death penalty.<6> When the serial killer John Wayne Gacy was executed in 1994, Malkovich organized a champagne party for himself and his friends. He portrayed Austrian serial killer Jack Unterweger in a one man show collaboration with the Musica Angelica chamber orchestra in 2008.<8>

Actor William Hootkins, who worked with Malkovich in BBC Television's Rocket to the Moon, stated, "In fact, he's so right-wing you have to wonder if he's kidding."<6>

In a 2002 appearance at the Cambridge Union Society, when asked whom he would most like to "fight to the death," Malkovich replied that he would "rather just shoot" scientologist Tom Cruise, journalist Robert Fisk, and British MP George Galloway.<9> Fisk reacted with outrage.<10> When interviewed by The Observer, Malkovich elaborated on his comments: "I hate somebody who is supposed to be a Middle Eastern expert who thinks Jesus was born in Jerusalem. I hate what I consider his vile anti-semitism. This being said, I apologize to both Fisk and Galloway ; they seem like good men but if they make such a heinous mistake again, I will not hesitate to murder them brutally by way of the gallows." Malkovich later added: "I'm a Christopher Hitchens fan myself, but no one has thinner skins than journalists, in my experience, and I come from a family of them... They can dish it out but they can't take it. But the reason I don't like the topic, why I don't really say anything about a whiner like Fisk, is it gives them more oxygen."<11>"

First of all, Voight is certifiable. Hate has consumed him and oozes from his pores. I would feel sorry for him but there are many more worthwhile people to feel sorry for so I will not waste the energy.

Secondly, if any left-leaning celebrity had said such vile lies about the previous president, especially so early in his term, they would have NOT been aired AND that celebrity would have been vilified and excoriated by the RW to the point that their career would have been all but over.

Seems to me there are plenty of whack jobs on the right in Hollywood and they are really looney tunes like Voight, Dennis Miller, Chuck Norris, Stephen Baldwin, Joel Surnow, etc. While I find 24 a guilty pleasure, now I know why Voight ended up on the show this year as the head of a Blackwater type mercenary company.
