2. I agree. He deserves a lot of credit.
And every day that DADT remains in effect is a lost day for the military.

5. And it's worth noting he got a lot of applause for that segment.
I wonder if Stars and Stripes has ever polled enlisted military about what they think about this.

The military skews younger than the general population, and young people lack the hangups about this issue that some older people do.

Anyone know any info about this? I've Googled and really found nothing that addresses it.

15. After work I'll get my link to the Stars and Stripes issue
that my brother had written in for when he was overseas and it just so happens that it also has a bunch of letters also talking about serving with and allowing gay and lesbians into the armed forces. It's great to read so I'll link you to that as soon as I'm home.

I'll ask him if he knows of any polls about DADT that's not just the officers being polled.

Here's the link to the Stars and Stripes LTTE; the ones about gays in the military:

20. I've seen one study on this
While it wasn't a poll on if the military people favor getting rid of DADT, I've seen a poll before seeing what the effect of repealing it would be on the military's recruitment effort. The poll showed it would be negligible, with about as many people who say they wouldn't join the military from DADT as those who say they wouldn't join the military without DADT.

I've also seen one poll done on all military people of all ranks (military polls often just do higher ranking people, who tend to be much more republican then the rest of the army) that showed politically the military is about the same as US population in terms of party registration.

12. I actually like his shaved head.
He looks kind of cute with it.
He was cracking me up last night with the singing while being yelled at by the Army guy.

14. Remember Andrew Young's advice to Colbert last year, during the writer's strike?
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/148028/january-22-2008/ambassador-andrew-young?videoId=148028

Young (who'd worked with Colbert's father to end the '69 Charleston hospital strike) asked Colbert (who notably didn't even bother to stay in character) to get on the phone to urge an end to the writer's strike. Two weeks later, the writer's strike ended. Given the nightly airtime Colbert had given the strike, I suspect that he did exert some pressure where it was needed, and may deserve a bit of credit there.

It's a mighty tall order, sure, but could Colbert now be trying to end the Iraq War? The theme of Monday's show was his declaration of victory, and The Word kicked off with "Why are you {still} here?" It would be hilarious and fitting if Colbert (who is America, after all) helped tip the scales in decisions about prolonging the occupation.

He has cajones.
