Political Triage
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 12:03 PM by NJmaverick
In emergency medicine one learns about triage. It's a techique that is used when one is confronted with more sick or injured than you have resources to care for. It forces one to push some people back (not because they are any less important) and pushes others forward (not because they are better or more important) so the most people as possible can be treated and saved. For example someone who has coded and requires CPR will be put on the back of the line because it would take too much man power and have very low odds for success. It's not that the system doesn't want to save that person, but they could end up losing 8 people that could have easily been saved while working up the code. In the end the system attempts to save all, but it does have to set priorities based on trying to save as many as possible with the resources available.

The Republicans have left the nation in such a mess over the past 8 years that the Democrats and President Obama are having to use the same technique. They are faced with a huge number of equally important issues and they are forced to push some forward and some backward so they can address as many as possible in an effective manner.

the civil rights of a rather large portion of our society?

Kidding aside, I think that out of necessity, the triage approach is exactly the one that the Obama administration needs to take. I wish it were not so, because basically, every issue matters.

11. Excellent analysis. The 'triage approach" means some things
have to wait a little longer than others, but they will get done.

13. You are correct that there is a strategy in all that is dealt with,
and some things are simply priority, while others will be done when it is their time.

What I have is assured confidence that Barack Obama will do what he said he will do, period.
The only questions are when and how.....

Thanks, NJMaverick. Well-said.

I'm sure your message is lost on the "me, me, me" whiners/bitter Obama bashers, though.

25. Isn't it customary, in a triage situation, to at least apply a bandage?
You know... so that the "patient" will stop bleeding all over the floor... before moving on to devote one's attention to other, more pressing, "patients"?
It seems to me that the "patient" will be a lot less dead that way, when you manage to get to "him/her".

26. Political Rationalization
Torture. War Crimes. Treaty Obligations. Rule of Law.

These are not "equally important issues" like the relative luxuries of our domestic difficulties.

You can't "triage" our National Soul.
