Juan Sotomayor, M.D. defends his sister Sonia; Scolds Newt and Rush
Excerpts:
Juan Sotomayor is furious over charges of racism being lobbed at his big sis, Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

In an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Dr. Juan Sotomayor, a physician who practices in Syracuse, said "angry is just the beginning" of his reaction to critics who have rebuked his sister and labeled her a "racist."

"If I could create a Webster's dictionary for the most insulting, derogatory, off-base comments that I've heard about a person, it would be ... I'd have to sit here and go through that," Sotomayor told ABC. "This is not the person that they're describing."

On ABC, her brother vehemently defended his sister as "the perfect role model" and a "wonderful person." He said the critics who have called those remarks racist -- a list that includes conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh and former House speaker Newt Gingrich -- "don't deserve a response."

"It's not even something that should even be mentioned," he said.

"You just don't understand how a brother can feel," he said. "It's, you know, you live with someone your whole life and you know it's just great."

"My sister was tough as nails," Juan Sotomayor said of their childhood together in a Bronx housing project. He said she's always been focused on family and was "the life of the party."

He said his sister is at ease with a diverse range of people and circumstances.

"She can mix with any crowd," he said. "This comes from my mom. If you're poor, no matter what person you are, no matter what faith you are, what kind of economics, you treat everybody fairly and equally and treat them humanely."

He said he's "just really proud of her. No other word to say it. No other words to describe how you feel. It's just a great feeling."

"I've always said that the Hispanic population in the United States needs role models, educational role models," he said. "And I think she is the perfect role model ... She's a strong person. She's determined."

1. Sonia Sotomayor is
a unique person..she's focused on the law but also "is the life of the party"! Looks like she could bring some life to the court.

I like the way Dr Sotomayor says.. "He said the critics who have called those remarks racist -- a list that includes conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh and former House speaker Newt Gingrich -- "don't deserve a response."

"It's not even something that should even be mentioned," he said."
