FreeRepublic has been marked.
Tamron on MSNBC, just reported, pointed out several times that Mr. von Brunn's dispicable writing was on FreeRepublic and has been pulled from that site. Now, if the site wasn't on watch by the SS---every word they say will be now.

Those asses have been out of control and racist for far too long. They've been publicly named and I hope there is major follow through.

21. I wonder if the FBI is serving them a warrant for the backups they have with his posts on them...

If not, then they should! I'm sure some of the same freeper mentality that destroyed a lot of what Bushco and Rove were communicating about is also at work here to try and get rid of evidence that there might be any sort of complicity that might even pull them into court as well.

They should be told that the FBI is coming in to monitor their "clean up" to make sure that no data gets destroyed in the process, and that it is only being taken away from public eyes (which perhaps they might see as free republic's right to do). But destroying material evidence in a murder/terrorism trial would be unlawful if the warrant were served.

I would really like a dialogue from the media to get people to understand that this is not vendetta shit.

This is hate crimes,

this is terrorism. And that is REALLY important. This is right wing terrorism. It is REALLY time for Americans to get that fact into their minds. It is terrorism, Pure and simple.

15. Maybe it's about time we start printing out FR posts..
Since two alleged killers were Free Republic regular posters, maybe we need to periodically
print out posts and archive them, since FR seems to be protecting their socipathic members
and hiding their associations with these nutjobs.

Wow, that's fricking unbelievable.

Two murderers, both posting on Free Republic. And they were posting their political
views on these sites--which were welcome and blended in with the other hate just fine.

What a freakish group of miscreants.

53. IF we are wrong about something
WE need to get it out in the open or we are discredited.

This right wing nutcase had a post from another website copied onto FR. He wasn't the one who posted it there. Believe me, when his name was released, I tried to find a connection between him and the usual right wing websites but I only found posts that they repeated, nothing directly from him. He's all over the internet posting crap under his own name and I haven't found any indication he's used a screenname.

64. Not sure if you meant to reply to me?
But I agree with what you said here. I tried to urge caution about saying the killer actually posted at FR, Hannity, etc., as it seemed others were simply quoting his writings.

As others have pointed out, however, the fact that others on those boards praised him is the real issue.

Still, it is good to be factual and to retract when we discover we've posted something incorrect.

There is a lot still unknown about this guy. There are bits and pieces surfacing that the shooter hated, Bush, big business, the war and other things we agree with. To pin him to Free Republic or tag him as a right winger at this point could backfire.

86. Actually apparently MSNBC found "older posts" by von Brunn.
I know there is a post that was posted with his name on several sites. Not with the ones listed. These are older posts and some were found by other posters on this board. That being said, you're right no one really knows. Well not yet anyway. However he does have a site on the net that was kept in well condition and so I won't marginalize his participation.

Not to mention---it doesn't matter about "HIS" posts on FreeRepublic. It's now open the door to look into other posts of FreeRepublic because MSNBC shouted out that site on the net. Not only MSNBC but also CNN. And on that level there is no discredit to DU because their posts are vicious, racist, and either have directly violent or veiled attacks to the President and others in the public. For that alone they'll be watched regardless of von Brunn--the door just opened with the public announcement of his association with FR regardless if it's true or not. Which has not been disproved by anyone else so far.

Well-said. Isn't it revealing how we haven't heard one Republican comment on this tragic incident yet? The cowards don't want to be asked about the right-wing fringe connection. And they're probably afraid that the MSM will report that Von Brunn voted straight-line Republican for 55 years.

Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 06:13 PM by ClarkUSA
We're not the only ones who're connecting the dots:

"First, Dr. George Tiller was gunned down at his church by an anti-abortion fanatic.
Then, an unemployed tuck driver shot up a church because he hated liberals and gays.
And now a white supremacist has shot up the Holocaust Museum and killed the security guard there.
Okay, I’m doing a bit of the media “three makes a trend” BS here. But it’s also not crazy to see a trend emerging."

Possession of a high IQ has almost nothing to do with one's ability to be a rational, compassionate human being.

James Randi ("The Amazing Randi") was once a member, and he famously resigned when he got booed off the podium after giving a speech decrying Mensa members' susceptibility in falling for what he considered pseudo-scientific clap-trap and fraud.

52. Anyone who scrubs their site
in the wake of a shooting/murder/hate crime, needs to be considered suspect in that crime. Period.

What other reason would there be to pull information from the site, other than to hide their complicity?

56. so, is the idea that someone else
may have taken his blog post and put it on FR? That seems possible, but not as likely as him having put it there himself...

Here's all I know so far:

from HuffPo article:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/10/james-w-von-brunn-holocau_n_213864.html

"A man has posted under the name James W. Von Brunn on various online forums, questioning President Barack Obama's origin of birth. A post under that name was pulled on the day of the shooting from the conservative website Free Republic; a cached version is here.

NBC News' Pete Williams reported that Von Brunn had been arrested before, in 1981, for walking into the Federal Reserve Headquarters with two guns. "

62. interesting post from FR written by von Bron - I didn't know Obama had a Pakistani passport!!
these people are something.

Interesting, von Bron does sound pro-Bush and pro-Palin:
(not that I can personally blame Bush or Palin for every nut that supports them. There are plenty of other things to blame them for)

snips fro von Bron:

"Love him or hate him, (*George W, Bush) we all remember how the press went to great lengths to find out every move that President Bush made ... finally unable to come up with anything factual, so they created it! When their accusations were proven empty, they refused to retract one word of the fraud they perpetrated on the American people.

Dan Rather lost his job over fraudulent documents, because common people like you & me reached out and ripped CBS to pieces. They couldn't stand the loss of sponsors OR viewers!

The same Media went to great lengths to scandalize & destroy Sarah Palin. She maintains a 91% approval rating among voters from all parties, thanks to the Internet and investigative journalists who don't work for the mainstream media."

the hand behind the '93 WTC bombing. Neither commits these acts of terrorism by their own hand...RimJob is a diabetic cripple, Rahman is blind...they just sit back and influence the crazies, goading them on to do the things that they want to see done.

How soon til we see his sorry, wheel-chaired ass in a Supermax?

72. They should have been marked before this.
Remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks? In their documentary "Shut Up and Sing," they mentioned Free Republic near the beginning. FR were the ones who started the campaign against the Dixie Chicks. I hold them responsible for the harassment and death threats against those ladies. NO ONE should be able to get away with what they did to them.

We gripe and complain about plenty of republicans and public figures here. We know better than to take it that far. The few times someone goes too far, the mods and the other members do something about it.

Quit while you're ahead. Here are some suggestions:

1) Start by reading some history books

2) Learn how to spell

3) Take off your Doc Martin's and unhook your suspenders

4) Tune in, turn on (your mind)

Peace

I noticed how they are very careful in how they phrase their comments. They know better than to say something that would get them in trouble. As long as they don't call for the assassination of anyone, they can pretty much say anything they wish.

96. Well I go for the slutty airline stewardess type. Thinking of switching parties.
This conversation reminds me of a joke, an old joke. One lady says to a second lady, "Doesn't it bother you when your husband chases other women?". The response, "No, our dog chases cars but he can't drive." I think that's how my wife feels.

I finally came to the realization that I was old when the young ladies stopped giving me the, "you dirty old man" glare and started to smile at me. At first I was flattered then I realized that they were giving me the, "Ah look at that ole guy, still trying to flirt. Isn't that sweet."

Have a great weekend.

But he was a birther and he went crazy. So do I think something will be done? Yeah, I do. They won't discredit any fool who says something outrageous against the President, against Jews, against any other minority group or anyone they want to terrorize or "wish" was terrorized.

95. I understand that. But not after von Brunn.
von Brunn based on all the news accounts was well known by FBI profilers and among anti-hate activist groups. His name has come up from time to time and he was relatively dismissed and underestimated mainly because of his age. So despite his ranting and raving that has been known about through the years he's been basically thrown into a folder and subsequently forgotten about---despite being vocal on occasion.

After the publicity into this, and post Homeland Security's earlier release, and the shooting attacks that have been racially motivated it's safe to say that RW sites are not going to be ignored. They can play the victim all they want but they have been marked on several newstations and even FauxNoises' Shep Smith shouted them out as "dangerous" and "hateful"--said they needed to be watched. So this is nothing that can be just swept under the rug.

Now they've been given notice.

Wow.

These websites are obviously read by journalists. Hopefully, they can improve their leads to stuff that will actually interest us.
