The Six Top Republicans Obama Listens To

"Regardless of whether the President's bipartisan outreach is producing legislative results, there is a handful of conservatives and Republicans that the president and his White House team respect. By respect, I mean, quite simply, the degree to which the White House responds to their worries and needs and believes that the time spent responding is useful and necessary. It is unclear whether the quality of this outreach differs from the respect accorded to Sen. Ben Nelson by the Bush White House. . . "

1. It doesn't bother me, honestly...
...these 6 are probably the sanest of the bunch. Obama shouldn't shun these people solely because of their party identification, and neither should we.

(VOTING for them, on the other hand...)

2. Here is the list

Snowe
Collins
Lugar
McCain
Brooks
Goldsmith

as for your comment, if we can talk with Ahmadinejad and Castro I think talking with Republicans should not be too much of a problem.

5. If listening to simply means talking to them

then fine. McCain for example is one of the first to stab him in the back.

8. Actually I think that the point of talking with them is that some of the time you
can actually persuade them.

Brooks, for example, just wrote an excellent article on Sotomayor. Having said that I hate David Brooks more than any of them because it was his 'reasonableness' IMHO that gave intellectual coverage for most of the stupid shit that Bush/Cheney did.

After the Vietnam War I went to Vietnam to negotiate with the PRV on getting former soldiers and relatives of CIA agents out of the country.

Even after 30 years of conflict there were no hard feelings and the discussions were very relaxed.

Its just talking for god sake.

11. that's what I mean
for god sake.

Changing his opinion (flip flopping) because of their influence, not too good.

12. when McCain had a little hissy about the helicopter for example

Obama decided not to accept the new hi-tech helicopter because of McCain's whining about how expensive it was. And we spent trillions in weapons over the last several years.

just an example

7. Most on that list may be Republicans, but they are not conservative.
The conservatives are always railing against the ladies from Maine, McCain, etc.

14. No, they are not.
The conservatives despise these two women, particularly after they broke ranks and voted with the Dems on the stimulus bill.
