American Medical Association: "We do not support Government-Based Insurance"
Who the hell cares what they say? I am a physician, graduating from Medical School in 1986 and the AMA has done squat for physicians. They think that they represent us...they are the sacred and useless cows of healthcare, an association of lobbyists that only think of themselves and how to line their pockets. They have been parasitizing Medicare (a government-based insurance) and now they are blowing smoke up their asses. The AMA has contributed to the mess that is our healthcare system and have been willing accomplices of the destruction of our system by the Insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies. So, I do not give any credence to the AMA, they should get out of the way if they have no plans to help our President fix this mess.

1. I do not support the AMA.
What a bunch of losers. Shame on them.

I notice they got a seat at the table and a big old microphone.

2. Well then, how about Doctor-based Insurance?
That way, the Doctors decide what care you get. Just have the government PAY for it.

We could call it... "Single-Payer". Neat idea, huh?

NEVER let these neocon profit pigs frame the message like that.

7. Wasn't there a Doctor in New York that tried that
I thought I heard about a Doctor that was offering his own plan that patients could get to use his services. I also though I heard the state government was trying to shut him down.

Anyone have information on this (I believe I heard it on NPR a month or so ago).

3. Why? Why does it matter to them who pays them as long as they are fairly compensated?
Why do they care if 1) they get paid immediately, and 2) they don't have to get pre-approval for operations? Why do they care if they don't have to personally deny care based on arbitrary refusal to pay? Why would they be against something that empowers them to practice medicine instead of business administration?

5. Who cares if they do or they don't? Let the public have a choice.
If the government option stinks, then no one will buy it.

6. Thanks for sharing that. I had heard they were against a public
plan, and didn't understand why, since I had also heard that most doctors, or a majority, were for it. Nice to hear the other side of the story.

8. Why don't they like
it? That doesn't say much for them and the care of people who can't afford expensive insurance.

9. They fought long and hard against Medicare. Just more of the same.
Of course all they do about Medicare today is complain if physician fees might be cut -- funny how sticking your nose into the trough makes you feel about having feed available.

Meanwhile, the nation cries out for health coverage reform -- and the most-efficient form of that is government based: e.g., Medicare.

10. Medicare allows me to practice medicine the way it should be practiced...
I don't have to jump through hoops or lie to the insurance company so my patient can get their needed tests. It is incredible that my patient with colon cancer needs a precertification from a bureaucrat to get chemotherapy or radiation therapy. I support government-based insurance as an option; Medicare has done a decent job for our retirees and has kept the promise to our dialyzed patients. I know that there are many doctors that are wasteful, they should be watched, but many of them order test after test because they are afraid to get sued.

12. I wonder how many people are thick enough to believe....
that the AMA has humanitarian interests, the good of society at heart. Well, a lot of folks believe in the Rapture.
