BBC still reporting from Iran, "today's demonstrations changed everything" atleast 1 million protest

BBC reporter John Leyne filed an amazing report that was televised on BBC America a few minutes ago. His basic point was that the situation today is completely different than it was 48 hours ago. The footage of the peaceful demonstrations were much more extensive than is being showed elsewhere and seems to confirm their estimates that protesters numbered well in excess of one million and might have been closer to two million.

Here are the main points he reported:

Televised report with extensive footage of peaceful demonstrations.

They reported that despite continuous admonitions by the government not to go out that control of the capital was in the hands of protestors and that the police who were ubiquitous on Saturday had vanished.

Protests were largely peaceful and quiet although one stronghold of Revolutinary guards had been surrounded and protestors had been fired on.

Also interviewed Karoubi, the reformist cleric candidate, who said that the vote was a fraud and that it was an insult to Islam and the original revolution.

When the newsreader queried the reporter about today's events the reporter said that the situation is changing radically by the hour. That he thought that on Saturday that the regime could not be challenged that now he could not see how it could be sustained.

Said that the protest today literally covered the entire city and could have reached 2 million people.

Here is the report from their website:

It was an incredible sight. A huge crowd, hundreds of thousands of people maybe even millions of people there in defiance of open threats from the government that they should not assemble.
The security forces were staying well away - we were even able to film and usually the secret police come in straight away and stop you.

But the crowds were so enormous they were stepping back.

Link has some video but their broadcast report was more extensive.

It seems that BBC has an exclusive on having reporters in Tehran and getting their material out.

I hope that link works.. it didn't have an embed code. Powerful and moving.. disturbing.

3. BBC has an exclusive ..................
on having reporters in Tehran and getting their material out ? Sky is doing exactly the same but you may not be able to receive that in the USA. Doubtless some child will say yes but, yes but , yes but that's owned by Murdoch.

Have you got any clue as to the timing of the reports ? It past midnight in the UK so I'd guess its about 4.30am local time in Iran.

19. Even though Sky is owned by Murdoch,
it has fairly decent news coverage.

It's hardly like its American counterpart, Faux Noise. Murdoch + the totally unscrupulous Roger Ailes = disaster, with an emphasis on the "a**."

in New York City when the filthy NYT underreported the protesters on Feb 15, 2003. I was so naive..I excitedly looked in the paper for it to reflect what was going on in the streets.

The NYT reported "thousands" when there were close to a million in NYC alone and Millions across the Globe that day when the World said NO to WAR! The Times also buried Al Gore's Win on whatever page.

6. Any doubts I had were crushed by todays show of dissent
When I saw yesterday's official rallys I was a little taken aback. Today's show of dissent in the streets was so massive though, it has changed my mind. You cannot simply make up phony street protests at the size we saw today.

11. 1 million? 2 million? My God, what is the population of Tehran?
Edited on Mon Jun-15-09 09:41 PM by Wednesdays
With those numbers, it's as though nearly everyone who could walk and could possibly get there--was out there.

Amazing!
