Have you ever painted a wood sided house.. The Obama method
I try and avoid he has only been in office 3 months, 5 months, 6 months ops, because quite frankly, they are pretty self evident in their truth.

I understand that because the Bush administration, signed things away with a flash of a pen, or ignored congress and laws all together, it really does seem like molasses for those who have been waiting forever for justice, in getting troops out, economic justice, the simple right of getting married.

People have a right to complain, I have a right to complain.

But honestly folks, this is like painting that wood sided house. Before you can paint it, you have to scrape it down to the wood, and then repair the dry rot and check for insects etc, before you try and paint it. That is about a good an example of how we are moving right now as I can come up with.

The reason I am putting this out is I just don't want any of us to despair that nothing will get done.

We knew "intellectually" it would be hard to turn the ship of state around, but now we are in the middle of the "reality" of turning it all around.

Someone (I am so sorry I forgot the name of the poster) put an op up about the promises kept by the President. Just a reminder for all of us, things are moving. I sat down and figured out that in the 10% if the time he has been in office in a 4 year cycle, he has kept 22% of the 500 promises he made on the campaign trail, in that 10% time. He also had to set up a government in that same said 10% time.

Please don't lose hope!

4. I live in a house that is almost 100 years old.. and trust me..
the simple act of painting just the trim, sounds easy, till you start and have to put in all the prep work, (which is 90% of the work)..It made sense to me :)

7. And don't forget about all of the trim work. Painting the walls is quick.
It's the trim that takes so long.

You might guess that I HATE to paint.

9. My analogy is this -
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 02:49 PM by truedelphi
You live in a family where the oldest kid always has the power.

Eight years ago, Older Brother gave the keys to a fancy sports car to a drunk friend of his, and although this car was so expensive that the house you live in was mortgaged to the hilt to pay for this one car, older brother didn't care.

Predictably, after driving off at record high speeds, the drunken friend and older brother totalled the car into the side of a huge wall.

The wall held a poster that read "Military-Industrial Complex is Good for You!"

Now the next Older Brother is handing the keys to his drunken friend. They plan on driving at high speeds down the same exact, twisty dead man curve area where Older Brother and his friend wiped out.

I do not need to wait till I hear the cash to know where they are headed.

The big difference is that this wall will carry a poster that reads, "Wall Street interests are good for everyone!"

You are right many of the issues that have to be addresses will have to be scraped down and sometimes just demolished all together. It's not going to be an easy task....but it is happening.

13. Point taken. The reason so many people are upset, however, is because
nobody's scraping it down to the wood, and then repairing the dry rot and checking for insects. They're still letting HMOs and drug companies dictate health care reform, and putting assholes from Goldman Sachs in charge of "fixing" the economy, and getting input from credit card companies on how to protect consumers from credit card companies.

14. How about...
turning around an aircraft carrier?

How long does it take for an aircraft carrier to make a u-turn?

While airplanes can turn quite fast (30 deg/sec) ships are much more limited. There is also a problem as to an
absolute minimum turning time (i.e. dodging a torpedo) versus a practical turning time (conducting flight ops
with jets on board, etc). Few people will notice 1 degree per second which is easy to do at 30 kts, so 180 degrees
would take about 3 minutes and operations could continue. This is a very realistic answer as the carrier must
counter sea currents which may need 1 degree/sec of rudder. If nothing is loose on deck, MUCH more agressive
turns can be taken as the deck will tilt 30 degrees into the turn. Anything not tied down will roll off into
the ocean, i.e. equipment, airplanes, people, etc, and no planes could land or take off with such a turn in progress.
These turns are done on first sea trials to prove that the rudder can handle the stress of a tight turn at max speed.
Here I would estimate a full U turn (180 degrees) in well under 60 seconds, probably 30 seconds, but you'd want to
hold onto something. Realize that in 24 hours an aircraft carrier can be 700+ miles away - that is a totally
unrealistic figure just to turn around. Future ships with bow thrusters will be even more manuverable.

16. It's the reverse really
You: Woohoo! We've got a house! Let's paint it and put up new drapes and get new appliances!
Obama: Uhm, whoaaa, we just had an 8 year house fire. Let's slow down here and call in some experts to examine the damage. We could hang some new drapes for show, but it's far better to rebuild it right from the ground up.
You: I'll go pick out the drapes!!

We can do this right, through the courts and congress, or we can just add another 4 years damage to the house.

And to carry it a bit further, Obama has only just left the hardware store. The 22% you mentioned is him on his cell phone telling Michelle to get the ladder out of the garage, get his work clothes out, and make some lemonade. He's going to be painting most of the weekend!

37. that is exactly what obama is NOT doing.
he is not scraping down or getting to the dry rot or insects. he is letting the actual corruption that has occurred and still exists slide by while "moving forward".

it would have been hard to find a less apt analogy.
