If Clark receives the nomination, how will they attack him?

1. they'll trounce him for supporting Bush in 2002, replay the video of
him praising Bush openly at a Republican fundraiser, have a TV ad that does that, and then a vision of Bush turning to the screen and asking, "Who's the real Republican here?"

18. It is already a well known fact, and it was about Afghanistan, it also set
Clark up to criticize exactly why he entered the race, Because of all the mistakes the Bush made, especially not going after Al Quada with everything we have. But you know all this, and you all know this and still post the attack messages.

"Yes America, that was me....and that was most of you....we certainly hoped that after that terrible Florida election things would work out and that Bush would be a decent President...

But that did'nt happen...no, we had economic upheavel, mass unemployment, mass intelligence failures , a war that we didn't have to have, and allies that we can no longer count on.....

No my fellow Americans, we cannot afford to fail this time around....please join me in making a better America. The future is ours.....and with your vote, I will work with all of you and together we will turn things around and forward to a new start!"

9. yes...
the republican theme will be "Clark is so damned dumb, he even said something good about Bush!"

I don't think so.

If we ever see that in an ad, it will be a Clark ad. He'll use it to show he's not an old-time partisan hater. He'll use it to show that he, like the vast majority of Americans, stood by the President after 9/11, but that the administration's actions since then have gone to hell.

And why do you think Bush wouldn't run an ad quoting Howard Dean saying "I think he is doing a fine job on the war on the terrorism."?

11. Exactly, Great Clark Ad. Clark Is A Problem Solver.
Clark is a Uniter not a Divider.
Clark is Solution Oriented and not Partisan

Anyone remember Clark's line that went something like: I praise anyone for doing a good job...even a Republican! :D

13. Actually, I think Clark being "non-partisan" will garner tons of votes...
there are a lot of people fed up w/ both the Dems
and the Republicans calling each other names.

A lot of folks want unity, healing, progress, working together.

That's what Clark's ethos brings. Country above party. Duty
and honor to the best interests of all Americans.

It's Bush that's the partisan radical. We know this. Clark's
balance will shine the light on that.

5. if Clark becomes the frontrunner, his verbal mistakes will be hyped
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 07:11 PM by Eric J in MN
Howard Dean made a small mistake in referring to the Book of Job as being in the New Testament instead of Old Testament.

Nicholas Kristoff of the NY TIMES op-eds wrote that Dean is therefore "woefully ignorant of Western civilization."

Clark makes verbal mistakes, too, like when talking about Diebold, he thought "Diebold" was the CEO's name instead of the company's name. This wasn't exploited for Kristoff's rightwing viciousness because Clark isn't the frontrunner, but if Clark becomes the frontrunner than rightwingers like Kristoff will engage in such dubious rhetoric against Clark.

12. That Isn't The Same Order Of Magnitude Of Dean's Multiple Gaffes
Clark made 2 early on had hasn't slipped yet.

P.S. Dean prefaced his comment about Job by saying he knew alot about the Bible.

20. Most of Dean's supposed "gaffes" are just statements some disagree with
Most of Dean's supposed "gaffes" are just statements some disagree with or otherwise hyped.

Yes, Howard Dean should have been more humble in describing his biblical knowledge, but it's not a big deal.

Regarding his statement that capturing Saddam didn't make us safer, some agree, some disagree, I admit that I don't know the long-term effects of this path vs. various other paths. I wouldn't call Dean's statement on that a "gaffe."

By the way, I've contributing to Kucinich, Edwards, and Clark, and not Dean yet.

It's because of Dean's tax-plan, not his supposed gaffes, though.

If Dean revises his tax-plan to lower the Social Security tax-rate and extend Social Security taxes on all income, I may support him.

17. In Florida, Kerry and Edwards talked about voter-verifiable paper ballots
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 07:42 PM by Eric J in MN
In Florida, at the Floridian Democratic Convention, Kerry and Edwards talked about voter-verifiable papaer ballots. I'm not sure if they mentioned Diebold or not, but regardless, they showed concern.

6. hmm, assuming this is not flame bait
I think they might say that, because he has never held elective office, he is a big "question mark." They might accuse him of being another Jimmy Carter, who didn't understand how to work with Congress and the bureaucracies in Washington, etc.

10. They will use his endorsement of Bush
They will get some army brass to denounce him.

They will describe his entire campaign as an attempt to pander to their own base and appeal to their base to go with the real thing (i.e Bush)

They will focus on his inexperience.

They will play the Greens against the Democrats

They will create an event that will be a military triumph, something along the lines of Bin Laden being captured.

They will outspend him.

There will be not debate. Sorry to rain on the parade of Clark supporters who can't wait to see Clark tear Bush a new one, this will never be allowed to pass.

They will wait for him to start espousing more moderate views than he is now and get him for flip-floping

15. Army Brass Denouncing Him Jeopardize Their Own Careers
they are supposed to be non partisan. How can they overcome Clark's sterling, umblemished reports throughout his entire career?

They can't focus on his inexperience... he is a proven leader. Being an outsider to politics is a bonus to most voters.

Green against Dem? Huh, Clark is pretty far Left.

Bin Laden should have been caught already... why did they detour through Iraq and waste resources and lives?

A good Democratic candidate with the right message will have grassroots and enough money to win...

No debate works to Clark's advantage

Clark will not flip flop

16. That will be over and done with.
The Dean campaign is doing most of that now. People will already have answers to most of these things. Why would Greens want more Bush. The capture of OBL will not end the war on terrorism. You should know the capture of SH didn't make major changes in Iraq. No kidding-no debate.

21. I'm sure there are a LOT of skeletons
in the good generals military closet and the bushies own the closet. You can bet that the good general will be torn to shreds in short order. His peers will chomping at the bit to offer their opinions. We would also see ad after ad depicting Clark's lavish praise for the current administration.

"We need them there"
