For the record, I happen to like Obama
And for the most part, I'm ecstatic about the job he's done so far. And yes, I admit that I tend to critisise him on DU more than I praise him, but that's only because the last 8 years have left me with a suspicion of the executive branch that will probably remain with me for a long time.

1. Me too. AND real life isn't like the fun luau that they had... Real life is sucking
ass. Hope is really hard to eat or pay bills with. Our society is sooo messed up by Capitalism that it puts us in constant survivor mode; and that's bad for everyone's health.

3. I love the guy, even though...
I sometimes feel disappointed. Granted, I am too cynical a person to have jumped on the Obama train at first. It took me until Hillary was out before I realized the guy means what he says, and if that changes, it's usually for a very valid reason. He does enough right things that I have hope that he will eventually come around, or I'll come around in some of the decisions I don't agree with. If not, he's certainly better than that Bush piece of shit.

4. lol, so you thought the "change" he promised was BS?
That's what I dont get ..... if you want to be aggravated about him doing or not doing something, that's one thing.

But to not trust him merely because he's in the White House or because he's a politician .... nah ...... that's not an excuse I can comprehend.

6. We have seen little evidence that you like him.
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 10:21 PM by AtomicKitten
And your rationale is only a half-truth.

I hope you re-examine the tone of the way you talk about President Obama. It is offensive and puts people off, so much so that the broad brush is incited and that's no good. That ends up getting on people that don't deserve it.

On edit: I forgot who I was talking to. Your immediate response will be that I talk shit about Hillary Clinton. Two things (1) Obama is the president, and (2) what you really object to is that I post information that is contrary to the Clinton narrative around here. There's nothing wrong with that and it's perfectly within the DU rules.

borrowing from blm:
"Somebody posts factually inaccurate information? The answer is simple: Post a response and set the record straight."
* Skinner, 5-8-2007

Just thought I'd save a protracted argument, and this is all I have to say on the subject.

9. See that's the thing about the broad brush.
I have disagreed with President Obama on many issues. I just don't call him names and lose my blob. I can, however, see how that finer point could got lost in the cacophony of fire-breathing threads here.

It takes an effort to discern where each person here stands. Broad-brushing is a disservice to all concerned, and the taunting rhetoric you (and others) continue to repeat isn't helping.

15. It seems to me you are annoyed that people like the president.
Hey, he's a likable guy. I think you are reacting in a rather odd way (resentment perhaps?) to the general goodwill most people, not just me and "two or three others," feel toward the president. If you are inclined, that is probably worth exploring for some insight.

with very little effort overtly or reading between the lines.

Think about if you're open to some insight.

Or not.

36. Bush was "likable" in 2000, while Gore was considered boring
Indeed, preferred to have a beer with the one who would later become one of the worst Presidents of all time.

I don't think likability is something to brag about.

Sure, if you consider likability to be a click below an ingrown toenail.
In politics, however, it is considered a plus.

42. I only cited one thing that Obama and Bush have in common, yet you make a broad statement
Blanket statements aren't good.

There is always at least one thing in common between any two politicians. Always.

Things tend to get pretty heated on here and you and I have had our moments going back and forth.
I really appreciate your post and it takes a big (hearted) person to do so. So let's look forward and not try to turn Obama into bush.

At the end of the day, its only been 5 months and no President in recent memory has had as much shit going on at the same time as this man.

I simple asked for proof of your likability toward Obama, by expressing your views as if you
understand what he is trying to achieve and not just jumping on some bent up anger created by
malice from the writer of some blog.

I was looking more to your future post than your past.

In my mind the primaries have been over a year ago.

37. I get that.
I still recoil every time I hear "the White House contends..." or some similar intro to whatever the White House message. Then I stop and realize that it's not the Bush White House. It's like being Pavlov's dog.

Eight years is a long period of conditioning and your point makes perfect sense. Obama is going to have to make significant changes before many get past this. He may appear to be doing some of the same things. However, he is not the same man and that makes all the difference.
