What a lame denial by the White House of the Washington Post/Pro Publica story
Edited on Sat Jun-27-09 01:11 PM by Sweet and Spicy
This is how lame the denial by the White House to The Atlantic of today's Washington Post/Pro Publica story is.

What makes the Ambinder story irrelevant is the fact that the denial was already reported in the Washington Post/Pro Publica story itself. The article states that
"White House spokesman Ben Labolt said that there is no executive order" and that the administration has not decided to issue one.

Go ahead, read it yourself: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/26/AR2009062603361.html?hpid=topnews

But the story doesn't claim that a decision was made. The claim is that the Obama administration is crafting language for an executive order" to detain some terrorism suspects indefinitely.

Some are treating a breaking news Marc Ambinder's non-breaking "news" that I now quote:

Ambinder: Ben LaBolt, an Obama spokesperson, flatly denied the report to me. "There is no executive order. There just isn't one."

What is it about the Ambinder's passage that changes what is stated in the original WP/PP story? No one said there is an executive order completed.

1. Funnily enough, I think it's lame when 'sources' post crap
that isn't true. But I sure don't hear you criticizing them.

2. Why didn't the spokesman deny that language is being crafted
for the executive order in question? judging by the spokesman's failure to do so, it looks like "sources" have a good case.

5. Nobody said the executive order exists
You are doing the same thing the WH spokesman did: Set up a strawman.

If the spokesman states that nobody has "crafted language" to that effect, then the NYT writers could defend themselves by proving that such language has been crafted. But the spokesman won't go there.

11. WTF?! This is straight from the WH, and the spokesman spoke clearly.
That's why the spokesman wasn't about to "parse words" they stated specifically, because obviously you didn't read:

For what it's worth, administration officials say that the story seems to overwrite something that is common knowledge, that President Obama hasn't decided on a course of action yet, and that the task force he appointed to figure out these issues is weeks away from presenting its recommendations to the White House.

There is no draft of an executive order because the task force has not come back with any recommendation because the task force is weeks away from presenting recommendations. I think you need to focus on what's being said. All there is is that things are on the table...but nothing is written or in some sort of "draft" or there's some faux building support, because there's nothing done yet. And that's coming from the White House...not some unsubstantiated news source that is making statements on a speech on May 21, 2009.

10. Lame is mysterious "senior administration officials" who live in fear of seeing their name in print.
Edited on Sat Jun-27-09 01:46 PM by JTFrog
Before todays' so-called journalists had to create news out of thin air to generate a paycheck, journalists used to always question a source's motives before promising anonymity. Credibility means nothing to them these days.

And basing an entire argument on these anonymous sources does nothing to enhance your own credibility.

17. What's lame
is you attempt to drum up drama where this is none. Kinda like Republicans do on a daily basis.

Carry on with your Obama hate.
