FRAME: Howard Dean's Public Option comparison to Postal Service
Frank Luntz-style talking points from those opposed to the Public Option in healthcare reform can be easily refuted.

When anyone says that the Public Option will take away healthcare choices and that government-run healthcare will destroy private insurance, look no further than the US Postal System.

Even though you can get overnight delivery service from the government-run US Post Office, companies like UPS, Fedex, DHL, APC and TNT continue to operate, even on an international scale. Like the Public Option, if people want to still use Fedex or their company has an account with Fedex, they STILL get to make that choice.

That's what Dr. Dean said on the Bill Press AAR show this morning. I'm sure it's been mentioned before here.

Additionally, are those against the Public Option scared of competitive market competition, the very essence of capitalism? Are they anti-capitalists?

1. And, personally, I think the Post Office does an excellent job.

People try to put them down, but In all of the years that I have known them, their GOVERNMENT RUN service has been exactly what I want and need.

2. Good analogy
Dean is a sharp guy. God I wish they'd hurry up and get this done before I get too old.

3. Better yet, compare it to the DMV
I hate the Post Office. They lose my mail at least once a month. It is a terrible frame.

5. Where do you live?
I think the DMV would be a horrible frame. Their hours suck, lines are long...

The USPS does a fantastic job where I am... with temps going from -25F to 100F (Wisconsin).

7. Another good comparison is the fire department.
We all have access to it. Yet none of us complain about our socialized fire departments.

one of those services.
