Wow, a personal response to my CBS email!
I don't know if the body of the message is canned, but note the p.s.!

I wrote:

Subject: You're still my news network!

I honestly believe that Dan Rather and the news staff courageously reported a story that was worth reporting and the questions raised by the memos -- authentic or not -- have yet to be answered.

Thank you for doing your job, especially in the face of such noisy and high-powered opposition. You're my heroes!

xxxxxxx xxxxxxx
Dripping Springs, TX

Here's the reply:

Dear Ms. xxxxxxx,
Thank you for taking the time to write. Your point of view is important to us. Yes, the story did take courage to present, and it's unfortunate that the documents have become the center of the story rather than the substance of the story itself; however, we do regret that their authenticity was accepted so readily. Your support is greatly appreciated. Rest assured, we will continue to pursue the highest level of journalistic integrity.

Regina,
CBS Evening News

p.s. love Dripping Springs
:D

2. But how can they be proved forgeries if they can't be proved authentic?
Why did Dan Rather bow to that logic? I think he should have stuck behind his story unless they could prove to be forgeries.

9. Sent one as well I think we all could do the same as Longhorn-no reply yet
I support what CBS did and think it is unfair the treatment you are
getting. There's a story from
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/091804X.shtml and none of the news
paper or people who covered that online were asked to resign. Also I
believe CBS was very courages and I still think this was a plot
against Karl Rove to discredit CBS like how he did by bugging his own
office and then calling the police to say it was the other side. Plus
by sending out a coaching tape of Bush during the Gore/Bush 2000
debates.

The media is so easy to forget and not remember how Novak outed a CIA
Agent and nobody called for him to resign. That was true treason. This
is not. The media has created a double standard where anything covered
about Bush being bad is wrong. This was just one of those moments
where they forget what has happen.

I also don't think the media realizes that NOBODY was called to Resign
when the Swift Boats for Truth people were saying their lies and smear
against Kerry. They seem to have forgot so easy about them saying if
Kerry stopped the Swift Boat for Truth people from talking then it
would be bad. The double standard has then been played with Bush doing
it and they forget. I support CBS and Dan Rathers.
