Sen. Franken co-sponsors first bill: The Employee Free Choice Act
At an AFL-CIO reception moments ago, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) got the crowd all worked up--not by lampooning politics, but by participating in them. "I just became a cosponsor of my first bill in the Senate, the Employee Free Choice Act."

EFCA's been out of the headlines in recent weeks as Congress tackles a major health care overhaul. But labor must nonetheless be thrilled to have a new, high profile ally in the Senate.

Think that'll make him some friends?

11. The Chamber of Commerce went after him on this during the campaign
The Chamber's front groups anyway -- but the DFL Party didn't have much doubt of who was behind it. EFCA was one of the biggest issues of the campaign, and it may even help explain why so much time and effort was put into stalling Franken's certification.

Holding down unions and workers is one of the Chamber's top priorities right now -- which is one reason I suspect them or their proxies of being involved in the Honduran coup. Franken has just handed them a major defeat -- and in the nicest possible way, he's starting off his Senate career by rubbing their nose in it.

15. NICE!!! One vote closer to cloture!!!
Now we have to beat the conservadems into line.

Though I'd say get health care done first - it looks like the conservadems may cave to pressure from the progressives, and we may actually get a real public option!

30. Don't hold your breath
Right up until the swearing in there were Coleman voters who were demanding he take it to the Supreme Court. They've been calling Franken a state disgrace since he started running, and they aren't even sure what he's done that's so disgraceful.

If you want an indication of the feelings of the average Coleman voter, read the comments section on any article on the Star Tribune or St. Cloud Times web sites.

Great days indeed. If we can just have a move on ad to reinfoce votes he makes like this in MN we can see him up there for at least 12 years.

33. Senator Franken
Is a member of more than one Union, and has benefited from those memberships at various levels of his career, including back when he needed them, because he was just a comic actor working for a living. I'm not sure how many people have ever sat in the Senate who have that sort of Union bond.

He will be the Gop's worst nightmare.

He had a great comic career, but now, except for the occasional quip,
or speech at some dinner or media event, the famous humor
will be secondary to The Cause.
Our Cause.

I'm counting on him to be true blue.
