WES CLARK, THE ULTIMATE WEAPON
For those of us "Clarkies" used to hearing Wes' thoughtful and crystal-clear commentaries on Iraq since before he even became a candidate, Kerry's speech yesterday was a breath of fresh air. Maybe we've turned the corner for this campaign. The speech sounded like Clark's words (maybe they were).

Clarkie for Kerry

1. I'll give Kerry credit for the words, and I'll give him credit for
fully believing everything he said also. Clark had good reason for backing Kerry early. Having said that, yes, it was the type of speech that Clark was delivering during his campaign and in the run up to the Democratic convention. That speech was Clark's platform, on Iraq and National Security, all along. I am thrilled to hear these two men speaking in unison now.

3. people have said that Kerry is very good at listening to a wide array
of carefully chosen advisers and then making up his own mind, like Clinton. Sounds as if that may have happened here too. If true, it's a damn good skill for a President to have, even if it means sometimes you get led astray.

19. the change...
Kerry has completely modified his tenor in a way I've expected he's wanted to from day one. Does anyone know for what purpose was he holding back so much before two weeks ago? It really did make him appear weak when it was obvious that he was REALLY censuring himself to avoid hammering the Shrub on much of anything. I want to know why he did that instead of coming across three months ago the way he RANG OUT last night.

Any insights anyone?

4. Clark had something to do with the speech
because I thought the same thing.....Wes Clark must have helped to write it. The Iraq policy was laid out so nice and neatly. It felt like Wes. ;)

He was on CNN today to answer the chimp's UN speech, but I missed him. I think we'll be seeing more of Clark now that Kerry is concentrating on Iraq.

25. Kagen dating Limbaugh
can't be taken seriously anymore. especially since we can see she is not objective in her reporting.

5. Now would be the time for Kerry to announce Clark's role in the
Kerry administration. Personally, I'd love to see Wes as SecDef....because we are going to need a real general to win the peace in Iraq. But Sec. of State with a special focus on a doable Iraqi exit strategy would work for me, too.

That should be good for a minimum 1-2% of Republicans/Undecideds who still remember Wes's handling of Kosavo for Clinton. People ought to compare Kerry's proposed cabinet choices with Bush's bye-bye cabinet.

We are going to need 1st class Americans like Wes Clark to help lead this country back onto the road of sanity....

9. Wes can't be Secretary of Defense.
You must be out of the military for at least 10 years. He hasn't been out long enough. He could be Sec. of State though. :hi:

16. I think Congress could waive the requirement.......but I suspect that
Republicans would grandstand on this. Sec/State would be OK by me...

7. Ron Brownstein on Lou Dobbs yesterday
said Kerry is using the Wes Clark & Richard Clarke argument on Iraq.

That the Iraq war has made us LESS safe, & that we should have stayed in Afghanistan & gone after Bin Laden.

Now that the camapign strategy has changed, Wes is again in favor.

ITS NATIONAL SECURITY, STUPID!!!

10. CLARK!
As an avid Edwards supporter I think Clark should immediately be leaked, or a "trial balloon" as Secretary of State. Holbrooke can be Nat'l Security Adviser.

Clark is a once in a generation talent. Not only would he help Kerry win the election, but would make an excellent Secretary of State, preserving his role as a future political force.

I'd like to see either Clark or Edwards as the nominee in 2012.

But you have to communicate NOW that Clark is a key player on the team, just like Colin Powell and Condi Rice won moderate votes last time.

11. We need to use Clark and Dean as much as possible
in addition to JK hitting them with both barrels. We can't let up for one single second from now until November 2nd.

13. I've seen lots of great pics of Wes...
...but that has got to be one of my all time favorites. It really captures the genuine warmth of the man. Anyone who has seen Clark in person has experienced that, even when he spends most of his time blasting Bush.
