Cop: "disappointing that he (Obama) waded into what should be a local issue."
Obama 'stupidity' comment disappoints Mass. cop
By BOB SALSBERG (AP) – 15 minutes ago

BOSTON — A white police sergeant who arrested renowned black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. says he's disappointed President Barack Obama said police acted "stupidly" without knowing all the facts.

Sgt. James Crowley responded to Gates' home near Harvard University last week to investigate a report of a burglary and demanded Gates show him identification. Police say Gates at first refused and accused the officer of racism.

Gates was charged with disorderly conduct. The charge was dropped Tuesday, and Gates has since demanded an apology from Crowley.

In a news conference Wednesday night, Obama, who is a friend of Gates, said police "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates.

In an interview on WEEI on Thursday morning, Crowley says it was "disappointing that he waded into what should be a local issue."

4. Yo, Obama didn't "wade into" a local lssue: he was asked by a media that would never ...
have asked this question of another president.

If John McCain were president, the media would not have asked about the case. If Hillary Clinton were president, she would not have been asked about the case.

They asked Obama because of the color of his own skin. He answered.

12. Exactly, my son just rattled off about 4 different names of people
that committed crimes during the Bush presidency. Nobody bothered to ask bush how he felt about them?! The media is sickening and I could care less about this cop.

may be doing just a little bit of whining.

Framing the question to suit himself that has nothing to do with the reality of the situation.

15. I can't imagine that Obama didn't have "all the facts" on his desk about this case
I hate to say it but as a black president making a comment about racism, he has to step carefully or he will be called out as using "favoritism" due to race. Since when does Obama speak with being thoroughly briefed on a subject. Since when does he not use care when he chooses his words.

42. I think lying is a strong word but I think he was probably better informed
than what he was letting on. You've got to admit, there isn't much that comes out of his mouth that he can't usually back up. He had to have, IMHO, some decent knowledge to make a statement everyone in that administration knew would make a splash. It was a good way to get the media talking about something other than health care.

19. A local issue? Please. This is an emblematic, everyman issue. And it goes beyond the black
community. This is not just the black guy catching shit, this is the brown guy, the guy with the funny accent who's struggling to speak the language of his new country, the women who may not live in the best neighborhoods who are trying to "deal" with their surroundings and getting disrespected for their poverty....no, this is not "a local issue." Jim Crowley still doesn't friken get it. And apparently, neither does his PD:

. . . Crowley said Wednesday that he won't apologize. The charge of disorderly conduct against Gates was dropped Tuesday.

President Barack Obama, during a prime-time news conference Wednesday, said he didn't know what role race played in the incident but added that police in Cambridge, a city outside Boston, "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates even after he offered proof that he was in his own home.

"I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry," Obama said. "Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And number three — what I think we know separate and apart from this incident — is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that's just a fact."

He said federal officials need to continue working with local law enforcement "to improve policing techniques so that we're eliminating potential bias."

Crowley said he's grateful he has the support of his police force. He said he's not worried about any possible disciplinary action.

"There will be no apology," he said outside his home Wednesday.. . .

it was possible to hate the police anymore than I already do! Thanks Crowley for making such dreams a reality. I hope you get sued for false arrest and lose your job. If a cop came into my home and treated me the way he did, belligerent wouldn't begin to describe my behavior.

Obama was going stay silent on an incident and hot topic (like racial profiling) involving his Harvard friend.

Was he complaining about Smirky's lack of interest on local issues when he was in office? Not.
