Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox has just thrown a perfect game against the Rays and had his press conference cut short when a call came from the White House.
The perfecto-saving moment came in the ninth, with one out, when center fielder Dewayne Wise raced to the center field wall and went high to grab what looked like a home run for Gabe Kapler. Wise bounced off the wall, juggled the ball as he fell to the ground, but grabbed it with his bare hand and hung on.
"I was hoping it would stay in and give him enough room to catch it," Buehrle said. "I was just hoping it didn't have enough distance to get out of here."
Give Ozzie Guillen credit for that catch. The ChiSox manager put Wise in as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning. "We have him for a reason," the Chicago manager said.
