My PA. birth certificate from 1959 says "Certificate of Birth"
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 04:14 PM by Beaverhausen
My fiance's, from 1958 in California, says "Certificate of Live Birth"

I was doing some home filing yesterday and found them both.

Why do the birthers claim that a Certificate of Live Birth is not real?

oops

3. Because they are ignorant of the fact that there are 50 states plus DC and other possessions.
And they do not all use the same form to report births.

And that states change their forms from time to time.

They should take a course in genealogy that covers this subject.

4. Birth certificates are what the hospital gives you..and get this
beautiful velum certificate with little footy prints on it, suitable for the baby book.

Certificate of Live Birth, is what the state sends you when you want a copy of your filed birth certificate for you passport, college, etc.

30. Not necessarily - my hospital certificate does not say either
the certificate from the state my parents got in 1963 is a "Certificate of Live Birth"; the one I got last month is a "Certificate of Birth." As said above, it depends on the state and when the certificate was issued.

9. My husband and I were born in the same hospital a little over a year...
apart...

Our birth certificates look the same...except for a series of numbers on his...
after the printed registration number...his has 4 or 5 extra hand written numbers following.

We asked the Registrar what was up...she looked at his Birth Certificate and said
"I either can't or won't tell you why those numbers are there!!!":wow:

11. I was born in my grandmothers house in MA
I lost my original birth certificate, had a replacement and they spelled my mothers maiden name wrong even on the original.Even my baptism certificate shows the same misspelling. I am really screwed. There really is no proof of a doctor or a live birth on any document I have.
What do I do?

31. That is OK - at 85 my Mom had to supply a birth certificate to get Social Security
Verified or something. So she had to get a new copy of her birth certificate - I don't think she had needed one since she joined the Navy in 1942! She may have had a copy but did not want to send it off.

Anyway, the State of Alabama had a different date of birth in their computerized records than the one she had been using all her life. There are no paper records anymore, the state will not accept the information recorded in her family Bible, he recollections of what she was told, her school, nursing school, or military records as verification of what she had always used as

SS and Medicare suspended her coverage. It took her years to get it sorted out and she is still nervous there will be more problems. And now she is not sure what day she was born on.

It is kind of sad - my parents had the same birthday all these years and now it seems somebody's typo has changed my Mom's to a different day after over 60 days of sharing that day.

13. The GOP claims that many entire states are not real.
In comparison, the birthers' denial of a single .jpg seems trivial.

The common factor is denial.

"Certification of Birth". It was good enough to renew my lapsed passport recently. It has no doctor, no hospital, only my parent's name. Does that make me an "alien"?

If "Certificate of Live Birth" isn't good enough, "Certificate of Birth" is worthless. Sorry Beav.

Don't worry, I'm in the same boat and also born in 1959. My says "Vital Record" so I'm totally fucked.

I guess I better find it before I'm accused of being an illegal alien.

Ask for a copy of the vault original. That's the one that has the time of birth on it, the hospital, the doctor, mother's maiden name, previous live births, previous still borns, etc.

I ordered a copy of my vault original to find out the time of my birth for an astrology chart, as it wasn't notated on my birth cert.

Your state may have destroyed the vault original like Hawaii and transferred the information to a digital file. Paper or digital, doesn't matter, it still contains the same information.

22. Believe it or not the birth certificate I was given to me by my parents...
... was NOT good enough for the US authorities when applying and processing my fiance visa and my adjustment of status.

The UK issues short form and long form birth certificate. Short form states who I am, when I was born, where I was born and my gender. Good enough for UK authorities. However, the United States required I obtain the full version.

The short form I have is the one given free, and is an original. The long form I have is a copy from the registrar. Only the registrar has the official original. The US authorities requested this copy, and accepted it.

BTW the short one says "Certificate of Birth" - the long says "Certified Copy of an Entry".

24. My paper from New York State
just says that they certify that there is a record of my birth in the state on file. It has my birth name, the city, and the date of birth. That's it. It was good enough for the State Department to issue me a passport.

32. As an FYI, all states certify stillborns as well, although they are referred to as fetal deaths.
That is, there is a fetal death certificate used in all states in the country.

The word "live" was probably added to the birth certificate because there is an official definition of a live birth, as set forth by the World Health Organization. A live birth is any product of conception, regardless of gestational age, which shows signs of life following expulsion. These signs of life can include pulsation of the umbilical cord, gasps for breath, or twitches, for example. As a result, there can be some differences in practice in when a live birth is declared. For example, a 19 weeker who is born after a second trimester miscarriage has no chance of survival but can show signs of life in accordance with the WHO definition. If so declared, a live birth certificate would be issued followed by a death certificate. However, in practice, many providers use a gestational age cut-off, usually either 22 weeks or sometimes 20 weeks, to separate those which are always considered fetal losses from those that may be a live birth.

Probably more than you wanted to know. ;-)
