Another conservative Republican falls for Obama.

I was talking to a woman I know, a very hard-working nurse's aid, who used to vote consistently Republican because of her conservative and churchgoing views. (Even though her adult son is gay and, like me, has been trying to turn her toward the Dems for years).

Today she told me that she really likes Obama now (though I'm sure she didn't vote for him) and she's convinced that he does care about people like her and is "working really hard to help people."

She thinks he's on the right track with health care and that the Republicans are just trying to make him look bad.

I hope there are a lot more like her who are finally seeing the light!

He is trying to help people. It is hard to separate it from all of the right wing noise.

It always makes my day to hear about people seeing through the BS and getting away from the hate driven GOP. I wish I could say the same about my family. Is there anyone else that has a simlar story to the OP?

I don't know how to answer your question, except that she kept repeating how hard he is working -- in the face of so many inherited problems -- and that she thinks he really cares about ordinary people. And she likes his family. Knowing her, I'm sure she appreciates that there hasn't been a hint of personal scandal.

Remember how Bush had that wise-guy persona? I think Obama's press conferences are very effective in showing him as a serious, caring man -- as opposed to the frat guy smirker. What a refreshing contrast.

I think I remember her a couple of weeks ago saying something about Sotomayor. I think that appointment appealed to her.
