I'd like to thank President Obama for my new car.
Signed the paperwork on Tuesday, took delivery today. Paid cash. It would have been a lot harder without being able to trade in the old family minivan. We're a smaller and older family these days and the new small car is just dandy. Anyway, thanks for making it possible for me to get a new car with no monthly payment, President Obama.

2. Did you use cash-for-clunkers?
If so, how much did it save you?

8. I'd like to thank him for that, too, but I'd also like to thank him for this program which is
changing people's lives, and the environment.

250,000 less gass guzzling vehicles off the road reduces emissions in the millions of tons over the lives of these cars, also, there is over 100MPG per fillup in gas mileage in each new vehicle, and the drivers are saving money, and finally, you hopefully realize this new car for many could change their employment as they might be able to drive safely across town now, and more affordably, to get a better job where health care may be provided, or the new car may make a sick family members trips to the doctors and hospital every week (my situation if I am fortunate enough to get one traded in next week) much more comfortable than riding in a '94 crown victoria that has many problems too numerous to repair efficiently instead of just recycling the car and taking the great credit and getting a new one that gets 40% better mileage and has nary the harmful emissions that the crown victoria has. It was all I could afford then, but a new car for 120 a month is something I can afford, if I'm fortunate like the OP.

6. good for you. this plan will help a new car be affordable for many whose OLDDD vehicles
that got 18mpg or less cumulative, get new cars with much better mileage. I hope you opted for the full 4500 credit and truly went much greener with a vehicle that got 10MPG+ better than your previous. Enjoy your new, safe, and low-emissions gas-conserving new car! Hope they refund the plan for many who are waiting to get their poor fuel economy vehicles turned in. It'd be a disaster if they don't fund this, because the Democrats will be blamed for it, not the GOP.

everyone here! I hope it's still funded next week. I will be exchanging for a subcompact away from a 94 crown victoria!

15. How did they determine what kind of mileage you got?
My old caddy gets 21 mpg, but it might
have a lower MPG rating...

Is there some kind of chart they use?

21. I was responsible and bought a fuel efficient car back in 2002
Edited on Fri Jul-31-09 08:05 PM by doc03
and helped save us from importing so much foreign oil plus helped the environment. But another person that bought a gas guzzler in 2002 and burned twice as much gas over the last 7 years and damaged the environment twice as much gets a break on a new car paid for by my taxes. That doesn't seem all that fair to me. I think I am due a thank you not Obama. :nuke:

23. I drove a fuel efficient car until it died in 2008. My parents had a left over minivan
I don't see anything irresponsible about their having a minivan left over.

24. Sorry I haven't gotten around to thanking you,
but I'd probably be a bit more inclined to do so if I weren't so danged busy trying to figure out how to stretch my social security check to cover all the bills and buy prescriptions and groceries and hoping there's enough left to maybe put some gas into the guzzler that was the only thing available in my price range when my less-thirsty car gave up the ghost when gas was at $4/gal. Oh, and my guzzler qualifies for the program, but I don't. Still feel like whining?

25. I understand they had to set limits because of the
money that was available. But it sure would have been nice to trade my old fuel efficient clunker in for a brand new more fuel efficient hybrid. Instead of tossing billions down a rat hole bailing out GM I think it would have been better to just offer that same incentive to everyone for buying a more fuel efficient car. My brother has the qualifying clunker but couldn't pay the loan on a new car.
