Cash for Clunkers-OH NOES! WE'RE GONNA RUN OUTTA CLUNKERS!!!
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 07:51 AM by Honeycombe8
It's really getting the Republicans in a tizzy, this successful Cash for Clunkers program.

First, there was Fox News reporting (breaking news while he was reporting on the program generally)....reporting that the program had been cancelled! Yes, that's right, folks! The program has run out of money and has been cancelled, our sources say! (The truth of the news, we find out from watching real news, is that the program was running out of money, and the govt was thinking about what to do about it, while going back to Congress to shift more funds to it from another stimulus program...that $4 Billion had been promised for it, anyway, but only $2 Billion actually allocated because they didn't foresee it would be that successful).

And now the complaint is (on CSPAN)....you guessed it....OH NOES! With all of our older cars being crushed, we're in danger out of RUNNING OUT OF CLUNKERS!!!! WHAT WILL WE DO!!!????? WHAT WILL OUR TEENAGERS DRIVE????!!!!! Doom and misery surely lie ahead of us because of this program!

Of course, that's absurd. There is no danger of having a shortage of clunkers. There are millions of them, and a few hundred thousand, at most, will be turned in. And let's not forget that there are SOME clunkers that get too good gas mileage to qualify! (Like mine...a Subaru clunker)

So rest assured, Republicans. We will have plenty of gas guzzling clunkers that sell for cheap in the future. And we will have plenty of clunkers that sell for cheap and actually get decent gas mileage.

1. They should just think of it as a tax cut for the auto industry.
It is generating revenue and jump starting the economy. Why do goppers hate a strengthening America?

2. Because it will create or preserve union jobs
And all good conservatives understand (even the ones living on a government disability check listening to rush in their mama's basement) that kind of commie assistance is bad for Amurka.

4. The piece of shit I traded in was going to be off the road under a year anyway
The car was faltering and would have taken too much money to pass inspection even if it had made it that long.

6. I would rather save car dealers than mega-bankers
Car dealers give back to the community, bankers continue to give themselves mega-bonuses and scheme
to develop high risk financial games using our tax dollars, pensions and mutual funds to speculate with. After all this time and pain, I see very little regulation of the banking industry and Wall Street and here in Baltimore they continue to run ads saying mortgages with no money down and no credit check.
