1. I doubt it.
People have been losing their jobs, livelihoods, and seeing what republicans have done against families and against fiscal responsibility.

Most people I don't know of have nary a clue as to who G. Allen is, his false allegiance to this country, or the irony behind his use of the word...

2. My husband's republican friend later that week" I HATE YOUTUBE"!
"How can you HATE YouTube", I asked her,
"It's not a person, it's a thing, it's
like hating your MIRROR", I told her.

They don't like the accountability it
created.

Long Live YouTube!!!

4. It took away, in a large part, the ABSOLUTE control they had over the media...
Started with Katrina, hammered down with "Macaca".

6. Not to say that it couldn't get shut down.
Or that moneyed interests couldn't subvert
its form.

But I'm all for it while it lasts, and Google
seems to have pretty high standards.

8. Microsoft is teaming up with Yahoo, not Google.
I hope that the Google model stands up
to the onslaught.

10. That was not a reporter. That was a college kid of southwest asian ancestry.
He was working for the opposition, and recording Allen's speeches for the oppo team to rip up. That's when he caught the footage that sank Allen.

Allen is a moron. Even the GOP knew that.

11. There was also a mini-scandal about Allen's Jewish mother
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 02:34 PM by rocktivity
something the GOP VIPS didn't seem to care for:

Henrietta "Etty" Allen said...she had been raised as a Jew in Tunisia before moving to the United States...Her father, Felix Lumbroso, was imprisoned by the Nazis during the German occupation of Tunis...

She...and the senator's father, famed former Redskins coach George Allen, had wanted to protect their children from living with the fear that she had experienced during World War II...Etty Allen said in a telephone interview..."I didn't want my children to have to go through that fear all the time. When I told Georgie, I said, 'Now you don't love me anymore.' He said, 'Mom, I respect you more than ever.' "

17. If he had made it through their primary,
he still would have lost in the general election. The man has no sense. Well, at least no sense when it comes to hiding his racism.

The political ads practically write themselves. George Allen with his noose & confederate flag, singing for "southern rights" from his movie cameo, split-screened with harrowing iconic images from the civil rights era, MLK -I have a dream - Obama.

Nope, George Allen would not have won the election in 2008, even without saying macaca.

21. i'm not so sure....
Allen was well-funded and for the most part well-liked by conservatives and moderates, and before the '06 disaster, the party was quietly grooming him for the next big step...

Allen was like a more polished, better-looking Bush...He was tall, "looked the part" very well, had a folksy smile and spoke in those vague Palin-esque platitudes conservatives love to eat up...He was also the son of a beloved HOF football coach who was well-known in his time for racial tolerance on his teams...To top it off, like Bush, Allen had his artificial 'down-home country boy' image perfected...Lucky for us all he was dumb and said what he was thinking too often...

I'm just glad the Dems ran the perfect candidate to snatch the state from under Allen--Otherwise he may have been in the senate until he was gray...

20. He would have had a better chance than McCain, but there's no guarantee he would have beaten Obama.
America was ready to move past the GOP after two Bush terms.

Creepy old candidate, crazy ignorant hillbilly running mate and economy implosion all helped, but it's no guarantee that Allen would have won. He could just as easily done or said something equally idiotic during the general campaign.

The macaca thing was Allen being himself. He didn't need to do it at all. He saw the Indian (Asian) guy filming him and he couldn't help himself. He was going to show that foreigner up in front of the good (white) people of rural Virginia, REAL Americans! Listen to him talk about he "real world" of Virginia, I think we know what he's talking about. He was baring his redneck soul for the camera.

He did it all himself, no one made him. He couldn't help himself.
