I almost fell out of my chair yesterday
when I heard Rep. Bill Foster (Illinois-D) say in a local radio interview
he favored a public option and that he in no way wanted to be considered a Blue Dog Democrat. This is Dennis Hastert's old district in Chicago's far western suburbs. It is still very Republican. Foster has more courage than I thought. Everyone at my small business will be calling his office tomorrow.

3. Wow.
I remember that district from long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Grew up in Henry Hyde's old district next door. I forgot that a Dem now held that seat. :bounce: It's a very conservative area. Back when I lived there redlining was a common practice. Granted it's been 40 years but some things are slow to change.

Good for him. I wish other Democrats in similar districts were as principled.

4. Any Dem who's fighting this is Simply a DINO, corrupt, and should be put out of our misery.
Which is to say, "removed from office" post haste.

9. Thanks Cha
Believe it or not at the time this happened I was in my office taking business phone calls and I had the radio sort of low and at a distance so when Foster came on to talk I leaned way over in my chair and when he said "I am in favor of a public option" I couldn't believe my ears so I leaned over a little more to be sure I had heard him correctly and I almost toppled over. If I had fallen, hit my head and killed myself it would have been for a good cause but no one would have ever known.

7. That is so good to hear.
I wrote him a letter a while back when I heard he was still on the fence about this. I just moved back to Kane County two years ago and have been pleasantly surprised by how many people I've been meeting that are completely disgusted with the Republicans. Lot of Susan Eisenhower types here, I think -- used-to-be Republicans not willing to hang with the whack jobs that have taken over that party.

10. I wish more reps were like him.
Having the courage to stand up for what is right instead of politically convenient, being in a more conservative district.
