Offensive poster of Obama found on Drudge Report 8/03
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 08:56 AM by avaistheone1
I find that poster especially offensive and sickening. What the hell is going on in some people's minds?

1. How long before minstrel shows make a comeback?
Repugs in blackface shaking tambourines and shouting "Dat Obama boy sho can shuffle down dat sweet-tater pie."
One of these days those mouthy Goppers are going to push the envelope too far and the pushback will commence.

3. The GOPers are pushing the envelope really hard.
It looks to me that the poster was professionally done, as if a PR agency did it. It wouldn't be the first time the GOP has hooked up with a PR agency to spread their madness, hate and lies. The poster is sickening slick, simple and powerful.

One thing for sure it makes me more conscious of my own criticisms of Obama, and more supportive of him when I see this crap.

2. Somehow, it reminds me of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
Apparently, Obama was supposed to look like the Joker, but the "blackface" effect is undeniable.

4. I think the so called artist wanted to communicate both the "blackface" effect and the Joker message
I really hope this poster backfires on the people who originated it, and instead the public rallies around Obama more strongly. The people behind this poster sicken me.

9. How do you think supporters of GW Bush felt about the constant portrayals of him as a chimp or worse
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 09:37 AM by slackmaster
Of course they aren't allowed to make Obama look like a chimp because that's RACIST.

Pot, meet kettle.

10. So you represent the free republic, eh?
Bush's own actions and character drove this nation into the ground. Obama has done nothing to deserve this kind treatment. That is not a opinion. It is a fact. It is not tit for tat, or pot calling kettle black.

11. My personal policy is never to mock anyone for traits over which they have no control
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 09:50 AM by slackmaster
Like skin color, sexual orientation, unusual names, personal mannerisms, obnoxious spouses, embarrassing family members, etc. And I don't mind pointing out hypocrisy within my own camp when I see it.

BTW publicly accusing someone of representing Free Republic is a violation of the posting rules for this forum. I've let it slide this time by giving you a straight response rather than whining to the Moderators about it.

any favors report me if you feel that you must. Hey report me to Bush too while you are at it.

I can not equate Bush and Obama. I don't see how you can. The effort at denigrating Obama in this poster is greater than anything ever done to Bush. Bush is a mass murderer. He has taken this country and broken it into a million pieces. After Katrina, after the lies about WMD, and all the rest of Bush's lies how can you defend that piece of crap Bush?

And what level of criticism is warranted by the "facts"?

You?

right! Some people can't see or won't see the hypocrisy. There's an old saying "consider the source." If you troll RW websites, don't expect to find something positive about the POTUS!

Some people have too much time on their hands................

Just imagine all the advertising dollars Drudge will get for all the hits to his website from DU.

23. If you are referring to my Halloween costume from 2005, I learned a lot that night
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 01:15 PM by slackmaster
Like how it feels to be invisible.

For most of you who have no idea, I attended a big party dressed as a pirate in blackface. Real theatrical makeup with professional assistance, not cheap party store stuff.

My face paint job was so good that almost nobody, not even a black man I had known for several years, recognized me (then laughed hysterically). A bartender who had been serving me frequently wouldn't make eye contact so I had trouble ordering a beer.

Over the next several weeks I learned a lot about knee-jerk idiocy on DU.

21. And of course ABC's The Note claims it has gone "Viral"
Obama Joker Poster Goes Viral

ABC News' Devin Dwyer reports: The mystery of Batman’s “Joker” character has met American politics in a new poster that is surfacing on the streets of Los Angeles, Calif.

On one L.A. highway overpass support, an unknown artist has pasted four images of President Obama with white face paint, dark eye shadow and smudged red lipstick, similar to the appearance of The Dark Knight’s Joker, played by Heath Ledger. The word ‘socialism’ is spelled out in big black letters below Obama’s face.

None of the usual street graffiti artist suspects has taken credit.

The poster has gone viral online, crashing the website that first posted images of it and rising to the top of Google’s “Today’s Hot Trends” list. The original image is still visible here.

Obama 'Joker' Poster Causing a Stir in L.A.
KTLA News
3:34 PM PDT, August 3, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- A poster showing President Barack Obama as Heath Ledger's "Joker" character from "The Dark Knight" is creating a stir on the streets of Los Angeles where the image began appearing over the weekend.

"The Obama-Joker poster shows President Obama with white face paint, dark eye shadow and smudged red lipstick and also has the word "socialism" printed in bold, dark letters under the image of his face.

It's unclear who created the image and who is posting it across the city. No one has taken credit so far.

Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson is calling the depiction, politically mean spirited and dangerous.

Hutchinson is challenging the group or individual that put up the poster to have the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves."

32. The creepiness increases
because the man who originally wore that particular makeup is dead, a fact not lost on those who are promoting the poster.

We made fun of Bush, equated him with chimpanzees, questioned his mental abilities, agitated for him to be brought to justice. But I don't recall any of us getting behind anything insinuating that he should die. There is something inherently menacing in this particular poster.

35. No need to waste...
...a good outrage.

Political Satire has been going on for hundreds of years. We cannot get all up in arms when they make fun of Obama. Grow thicker skin and realize that this is par for the course for politics - in all countries.

There will be caricatures and exaggerated facial features in cartoons - that is how it works. Wait for real offenses before getting all angry. Your day will be better and so will those around you. It is tiring dealing with constantly offended or angry people.
